SSAFA – Health Visitor

BATUS, Canada 

We are seeking a versatile and experienced Health Visitor to be responsible and accountable for providing a full Health Visiting Service for an identified caseload, delivering the Healthy Child Programme and developing health visiting services within the BATUS Command in close partnership with the Defence Primary Healthcare Team and Alberta Public Health Services. You will be working for SSAFA, the UK’s oldest national tri-service military charity.

About the role 

To carry out this role successfully you will be a Registered Specialist Community Public Health Nurse, with relevant post qualification experience. Experience of working within a military environment and working with a diverse population would be an advantage. You will play a pivotal role in supporting the Safeguarding agenda and will be an active member of the Local Safeguarding Partnership Board, you would be supported by Safeguarding specialists within the wider SSAFA Team, the British Forces Social Work Service, military welfare service and Alberta Social Care Services. The Routine Childhood Immunisation Programme is managed and delivered by Alberta Childrens Services but there is a requirement to ensure that children are up to date with immunisations and liaison with local services may be necessary. The successful post holder will also provide advice and public health support to children up to the age of 19years as required. 

About the post

This is a unique Health Visiting position as you would be the only SSAFA Community Health Practitioner working within the military community in BATUS but would be supported remotely by the wider SSAFA Community Health Team, would work in partnership with Defence Primary Healthcare and liaise closely with Alberta Children’s services.  The post holder will receive regular safeguarding supervision and support from SSAFA’s Named Nurse and Public Health Nursing Lead and managerial support from the Director of Community Healthcare Services.

About you

To carry out this role successfully you will ideally have experience of working in a remote location, be a confident decision maker, be competent to conduct audits and write reports as required and you will need to be able to work autonomously, as well as being an effective wider team player.
