Supporting Military Partner Enterprise – North-East (Catterick) 14 to 16 April

Especially for Partners and Spouses, a three-day Business Start-Up Course for Military Partners will be delivered at Catterick Garrison, 14–16 April, through Supporting the Unsung Hero (SUH) by X-Forces Enterprise (XFE).

Career disruption for military partners remains a consistent driver of underemployment and financial fragility across the family unit. Enterprise and self-employment continue to provide a credible route to portable, resilient income particularly in garrison communities. Within this context, structured early-stage enterprise provision remains a practical “first step”, complementing wider employment and wellbeing support.

Delivery and Content

  • Classroom-based start-up training, tailored to military partner circumstances and constraints.
  • Core modules typically include proposition and planning, pricing/costing and basic financials, routes to market and marketing, and practical compliance considerations.
  • Peer-learning environment to test ideas, build confidence and establish mutual support networks.
  • Access to enterprise specialists and clear onward routes into mentoring and local/regional enterprise provision, where appropriate.
  • Eligibility: partners of serving personnel, reservists and veterans (early-stage exploration of self-employment).

Value to the Sector

  • strengthen household stability and reduce vulnerability created by repeated mobility;
  • convert existing partner capability (organisation, adaptability, leadership) into viable microenterprise activity;
  • create a supported pathway into longer-term mentoring, finance readiness and mainstream enterprise ecosystems;
  • reinforce a coherent “continuum of support” alongside employment, training, mental health and family services already delivered by Cobseo members.

Positive outcomes from Previous Cohorts

  • Increased confidence and competence in business planning and financial responsibilities.
  • Clearer decision-making on viability and next steps (including choosing not to proceed, often an equally valuable outcome).
  • Progression into business registration, local enterprise support engagement and/or ongoing mentoring, alongside strengthened peer networks.
