The ASDIC Collective

This week we spoke to Tony Wright, Chief Executive of Forward Assist, a multi-award-winning charity based in the North-East of England. Forward Assist is recognised as ‘thought leaders’ in the military charity sector, providing confidential, gender specific, support, advice, guidance and advocacy to those impacted by military sexual trauma, social isolation and loneliness.

“Forward Assist has in its various incarnations, facilitated Veteran ‘Drop Ins’ since 2007. Over the last 15 years, we have watched as grassroots support for military veterans and their families has increased year-on-year.  The ASDIC team, along with others, recognised that it was necessary to understand, connect and map these disparate groups so that services were both aware of each other and stop the replication and duplication of services for disenfranchised veterans looking for support.

“Mapping the landscape was long overdue and it is hoped that by harnessing the collaborative efforts of all, veterans can safely navigate support services in their own geographic areas. The ASDIC collective is a force multiplier and should go a long way to eradicate competitiveness and promote altruistic behaviours that put the needs of the ‘Veteran’ at the centre of all interventions.”
