The BFBS Big Salute Charity reveals 2025 Grant Recipients

BFBS is proud to announce that recipients of BFBS Big Salute 2025 grants have now been selected. These charities, who support the armed forces community, will receive funding of up to £10,000 for purpose-driven projects that provide targeted support for service personnel, veterans, and their families in the UK and overseas.

This year, the BFBS Big Salute allocated over £30,000 to six remarkable charities, who applied in 2025:

  • BOWRA Foundation received £10,000 to provide up to 100-armed forces community members with Bowra bags, issued following a brain injury or stroke.
  • Rural Veterans Hubs Kirklees were awarded £750 to support and integrate veterans back into the community.
  • Elysium received £5,000 to help to erect a memorial at the National Memorial Arboretum dedicated to veterans who have lost their lives to suicide.
  • Forward Assist were granted £7,500 to restore and relaunch the Salute Coffee Truck.
  • Stepway were awarded £1,960 to purchase two workstations and a printer.
  • Rees Foundation were granted £4,790 to support Care Leavers in the Armed Forces, plus marketing support from BFBS platforms.

Sue Mosley, CEO at BOWRA Foundation, said

The Big Salute grant will enable BOWRA to reach veterans living with brain injury through the delivery of our BOWRA Bag, packed full of useful aids to support them at the start of their recovery and rehabilitation. A big thank you to BFBS!

Nicky Ness, Director of Broadcasting and Entertainment at BFBS added:

Every year, I’m amazed by the creativity, dedication, and compassion these charities show in support of the armed forces community. The 2025 grant recipients are delivering projects that will make a real difference to service personnel, veterans, and their families. We’re proud to play a small part in helping them bring these vital initiatives to life, and we look forward to sharing their stories with our audiences across BFBS.”

Last year, the BFBS Big Salute grants supported a wide range of initiatives, including:

  • Veterans into Logistics to fund HGV driver training for veterans.
  • Little Troopers to expand its educational programme supporting service children in schools.
  • HorseBack UK to support veterans through its equine-based wellbeing project, which uses horsemanship to aid mental health and personal recovery.
  • Reading Force to support military families with children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND).
