The Role

An exciting opportunity for an experienced Senior Public Relations officer to join The Royal British Legion’s national media team has become available. You will play a leading role in running PR operations for one of the UK’s largest charities, working on high profile campaigns and events. These include the upcoming commemorations for VE Day and VJ Day 75, the Invictus Games and the Poppy Appeal. Last year, for the 75th anniversary of D-Day the Legion’s PR team was at the heart of international events, hosting the UK’s leading media outlets on board a ship which took 250 veterans back to Normandy. The work of the Legion’s PR team extends year-round and includes delivering creative campaigns to tell the stories of people we help, driving awareness of our political campaigning activity, developing stories and content for use across the organisation, working with high-profile ambassadors and engaging with national media during key events. The successful candidate will have a relevant degree or equivalent work experience, and will have extensive experience of media relations, public relations or journalism within a high-profile national organisation. You will have experience in devising, leading and delivering PR plans and campaigns using a variety of tactics and techniques, and will have worked with journalists at the national and regional level in securing significant media coverage. Experience of managing staff is desirable but not essential.

You will be able to demonstrate the ability to engage and interest journalists, to draw up creative media plans, to communicate with a range of audiences and to apply a strategic approach to your work to deliver against wider organisational objectives. You will also be capable of working in a fast-paced environment, managing a heavy workload with flexibility and have a positive approach to problem solving.
