Cyclists will set off on a special veterans’ ride this Easter Monday to raise awareness and vital funds for projects aiding veterans, serving personnel and their families with support from SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity.
The veteran-led cycle will travel 80 miles from Brunton Park, home of Carlisle United, to the Mazuma Mobile Stadium, ahead of Carlisle United’s away fixture against Morecambe on Monday 6 April.
The ride is being organised in partnership with Carlisle United Community Sports Trust and Morecambe FC Community Foundation, with funds raised helping to support veterans’ projects delivered by both charities.
Members of SSAFA’s Lancashire branch are helping to shine a spotlight on the support available locally to members of the Armed Forces community. The initiative aims not only to raise funds, but also to highlight the importance of connection, wellbeing and ongoing support for veterans across the region.
Martin Stevenson, volunteer from SSAFA Lancashire branch said:
“Events like this are a fantastic way to bring communities together while raising awareness of the support available to veterans and their families. SSAFA is proud to support this initiative and to stand alongside partners who share our commitment to ensuring no member of the Armed Forces community faces life’s challenges alone.”
Participants will complete the route ahead of kick-off on Easter Monday, demonstrating the strength of partnership working across the region to support veterans and their families.
Donations from the event will help fund projects that provide practical support, social connection and wellbeing opportunities for veterans.
