The purpose of the Veterans’ Foundation is to improve the lives of all within the armed forces community who are in need. They do this by raising funds, which they award to organisations having a real impact on those currently serving veterans and their families. Military charities undertaking life-changing work need vital funds to support and sustain their work with beneficiaries.

Who we are

The Veterans’ Foundation is one of the UK’s fastest-growing military charities, established in 2016 to support serving and former members of the Armed Forces, operationally qualified seafarers, and their families who are in need. Since its launch, the Foundation has awarded over £30 million in grants to nearly 500 charities and organisations delivering more than 1,000 life-changing projects across the UK. Grants range from a few hundred pounds to £200,000 and support a wide range of needs, including mental health, homelessness, poverty and social isolation. The charity is primarily funded by the Veterans’ Lottery – the UK’s largest single-charity lottery. In May 2024, the Foundation launched Operation Lifeline, a national campaign to tackle PTSD and mental health challenges affecting the Armed Forces community.

In 2025, the Foundation announced a new leadership team led by Jane Gurney, CEO, and Stella Atherstone, COO. This year will also see the hire of additional trustees to support the growing organisation. The new Company Secretary will support the expansion of the organisation, ahead of the 10th Anniversary in 2026.

About the role

The Company Secretary will support the Chair, trustees and executive team to govern the Veterans’ Foundation in line with legislation and best practice. The postholder will lead the Charity’s compliance activity, and should have a strong understanding of governance, charity law and compliance.
