Veterans Outdoors

Veterans Outdoors – Finance & Admin Manager

***THIS JOB VACANCY HAS NOW CLOSED***

Part Time (3-4 days p.w.) – Offered initially as 6 month contract

£25k p.a. (Pro rata)

Based: South Devon.

CLOSING DATE 7.10.2022

Veterans Outdoors offers support, outdoor wellbeing and friendship to our veterans, those still serving in our armed forces and those with a spousal connection. We’re growing fast and now we need an organised person with financial skills to support our busy team and help us look after our expanding cohort of beneficiaries.

Veterans Outdoors receives funding from many different organisations and we need to make sure that we keep track of the allocation of funds to a complex portfolio of projects, tracking costs and staff salaries for each event or activity and making sure that our banking and purchasing systems run smoothly and efficiently. The successful candidate will have experience of charity funding streams, will understand the principle of full cost recovery and will know the difference between restricted, unrestricted and core funding, allocating them accordingly.

The role will involve the tracking and allocation of expenditure and will oversee the preparation and updating of monthly management accounts, annual forecasts and bi-monthly financial reports for the Trustees as well as the annual preparation of financial reports for our accountant. This is a senior management role, working directly to the CEO but working closely with the Fundraising Manager and Head of Operations. We’re a small, ambitious but friendly team and there will also be some basic contract management and HR duties including monthly liaison with our payroll manager.

Essential for this role:

  • 1-2 years of financial or accounting experience, preferably following an accountancy-related qualification.
  • A good working knowledge of EXCEL spreadsheets, online banking and the XERO book-keeping system.
  • Good IT skills – and the ability to learn more.
  • Ruthless and dogged efficiency with extreme attention to detail.
  • Personal integrity – the ability to keep client and charity confidences.
  • An understanding of the mental health and social needs of our veterans and the ways in which those needs can affect a veteran’s relationships and their place in their community.
  • An understanding of the challenges of transitioning from the forces into civilian life.
  • A full, clean UK drivers’ licence.

The successful candidate will be required to undergo a basic adult safeguarding course and a DBS check.

If you’d like to talk to someone about this role, or to apply, contact us at: info@veteransoutdoors.org.uk

Applications should include a CV and a brief explanation (no more than 1 side of A4) as to why you think you’d be suitable.
