WRAC Association – Benevolent Fund Secretary (Winchester)



The post is part-time 18 hours per week, 9.00 to 15.30 over three consecutive days. Annual FTE salary £28,500, (pro rata £13,680)

The Women’s Royal Army Corps Association (WRACA) is a service charity (206184) that maintains contact between its members through its geographical and online Branch structure and social events, and provides welfare grants, on a needs basis, to women who have served in the Auxiliary Territorial Service and Women’s Royal Army Corps and their dependents.

An opportunity now exists for a Benevolent Fund Secretary to join a small dynamic team in Winchester.  Responsibilities include:

  • Receiving applications for assistance from the Service Charity Case Management System
  • Assessing each application to determine eligibility against fixed criteria
  • Inputting eligible applications into Salesforce (a CRM application configured for the charity’s use as its Beneficiaries Database) and updating status during the grant giving process
  • Determining whether applications are considered as major or minor grants using criteria agreed by Trustees.
  • Deciding the award for minor grants and recording the decision.
  • Organising and acting as the Secretary for all Major Grants Committee Meetings including preparing paperwork on each applicant and liaising with the Finance Officer to make payments are made as soon as possible after the meeting
  • Maintenance and administration of the Beneficiaries Database
  • Providing information for the Benevolent Fund section of the website
  • Providing information to support the charity’s publicity
  • Compiling statistics, reports and producing returns as required by the Trustees and the Chairman of the Benevolent Fund Grant Committee
  • Liaising with other charities on behalf of the Chairman of the Benevolent Fund
  • Liaising with almonising agencies (principally SSAFA and TRBL)

The essential skills for this role include report writing, record keeping and a high level of IT literacy, attention to detail, accuracy and confidentiality.  You will be an excellent communicator with a first class work ethic and attitude and will have a proven ability to be empathetic and non-judgemental with a professional approach.  A good knowledge of benefits, counselling and other support skills are desirable.

This role requires flexibility, with an occasional requirement to work away from the office base, including occasional weekends and evenings in order to support and promote the work of the WRAC Association at planned events and the AGM.

Experience of working within a military environment will be a distinct advantage.
