6th July – Coffee and cake day with local military charity

Worcester residents are invited to attend a morning of coffee and cake hosted by Blind Veterans UK, the charity for vision-impaired ex-Service men and women.

The event, which will run from 10:00am – 12:00pm on Thursday 6 July, will be held at the Guildhall.

Victoria Beech, Regional Fundraiser, says: “As an organisation we are very aware that there are many more veterans out there that could benefit from our support. They just need to know that we are here for them. This event will be a great way to raise our profile in the Worcester area, ensuring that no vision-impaired veteran in the area is forced to battle sight loss alone.”

This event will be a fantastic opportunity for supporters, both current and future, to find out about what the charity does to support blind veterans.  Community staff including Community Team Leaders, Community Support Workers and the Regional Fundraiser will be on hand to answer questions about the organisation, including volunteering and membership. There’ll also be an opportunity to see the range of life-changing equipment the charity uses to help veterans living with a vision-impairment.

Admission to the event is free. Refreshments, along with a selection of crafts and branded items produced by the charity’s beneficiaries, will be available for a small charge.

For more information please contact Victoria Beech on either Victoria.beech@blindveterans.org.uk or 01492 864574.

Blind Veterans UK was founded in 1915 and the charity’s initial purpose was to help and support soldiers blinded in the First World War. But the organisation has gone on to support more than 35,000 blind veterans and their families, spanning the Second World War to recent conflicts including Iraq and Afghanistan.

For more than a century, the charity has been providing vital free training, rehabilitation, equipment and emotional support to blind and vision-impaired veterans no matter when they served or how they lost their sight.
