X-Forces Enterprise and Soldiering On Academy report continued national growth of the Cadets in Enterprise programme, with delivery now fully booked for the remainder of the academic year. Working with Sea Cadets, Army Cadets and RAF Air Cadets units across the UK, the programme contributes to the development of enterprise skills, leadership capability and confidence among young people connected to the Armed Forces community.
Cadets in Enterprise provides structured enterprise education through a blend of online preparation and in-person delivery. Cadets work in mixed-service teams to develop and refine business ideas, supported by experienced facilitators and business mentors. The programme culminates in a formal pitch to a panel of industry representatives and a graduation event hosted by corporate partners, reinforcing standards of professionalism and accountability.
For Cobseo Members and organisations working with cadets, the programme demonstrates credible practice in youth development. It aligns with shared standards around good delivery and measurable outcomes, strengthening the wider ecosystem by building evidence of what works. Clear eligibility criteria, cross-service collaboration and structured mentoring contribute to consistent quality across regions.
Recent delivery in Cornwall brought together cadets from all three services, with feedback highlighting improved teamwork, problem-solving and presentation skills. Outcomes include greater understanding of enterprise principles, enhanced teamwork across services and readiness to present ideas in professional settings. These experiences strengthen cadets’ progression pathways, whether into further education, employment or future service. With further programmes scheduled in Warwickshire, Surrey, and Greater London national demand continues to grow.
Cobseo members and organisations working with cadets are invited to engage with X-Forces Enterprise to understand how Cadets in Enterprise can complement existing provision, strengthen outcomes for young people, and contribute to a consistent, evidence-led approach across the Armed Forces community. Partnerships, referrals and regional delivery discussions are now being scheduled for the next academic year.
The programme is endorsed by Anglia Ruskin University and is currently progressing through formal academic accreditation. It was first proposed to the Ministry of Defence in 2017 and to the Department for Education, followed by an initial pilot in 2018 with an Army Cadets unit in Blackheath (Lewisham). The programme has been delivered annually ever since and is now in its eighth year of continuous delivery.
