Air Vice Marshal (Retd) Anthony (Tony) Stables CBE appointed Patron of Veterans Outreach Support

Veterans Outreach Support (VOS) is proud to announce the appointment of Air Vice Marshal (Retd) Anthony (Tony) Stables CBE, as our latest Patron.

He brings a wealth of experience from his distinguished 37-year career in the Royal Air Force, where he served in the Middle East, Germany, the Falklands in 1982, Canada, Northern Ireland and Kosovo.  After retiring from the Royal Air Force in 2000, he continued to serve as a Flying Officer in the RAFVR and as Secretary to the Council to the Council of Reserve Forces. He was awarded a CBE for his outstanding service to the Royal Air Force and, significantly, for his dedicated work in veterans affairs.

His association with the armed forces charitable sector began in 2002 and has lasted for over two decades – including roles as Chairman of Cobseo, trustee of Headley Court Charity and as a member of key veteran-focused committees. He played a pivotal role in securing £35 million from the BIG Lottery to establish the Forces in Mind Trust.

Since moving to the Isle of Wight in 2014, Air Vice Marshal ‘Tony’ has continued his commitment to service through various community roles,  including Harbour Commissioner in Yarmouth, watch keeper with the Needles Coastwatch in addition to holding a number of trustee positions.

On his appointment as Patron of VOS, Air Vice Marshal (Retd) Anthony (Tony) Stables CBE, said:

“I very much enjoyed my brief time as a Trustee of VOS, regrettably curtailed by other commitments. Now that I have more time available, I am both honoured and delighted to be back within the VOS family as a Patron. I have been closely involved in veteran affairs for over twenty years and I hope that my experience can be utilised to benefit the beneficiaries of VOS. I am passionate about all things veteran.”

Ian Millen, CEO of VOS added:

“We are honoured to welcome Air Vice Marshal Tony Stables back into the VOS family as one of our newly-established Patrons. His distinguished service and deep understanding of the unique challenges faced by the RAF, in particular, and other Armed Forces veterans and families will be invaluable to our work. His appointments in key roles in the Armed Forces Charity Sector are probably without equal and,  given the breadth and depth of his experience and contacts, he will be hugely valuable as we take VOS into the next chapter of the charity’s story. “
