Army Dependants’ Trust – Secretary/Treasurer (Upavon)

Salary Range: £29,600-£33,600 [£37K-£42K pro rata]

The Army Dependants’ Trust is a registered charity (No. 1064522) which provides discretionary cash grants specifically to relieve immediate financial hardship for the family on the death of an officer or soldier member.

The Secretary/Treasurer is the senior executive officer, responsible to the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, for managing all aspects of the charity’s day-to-day business.

The Trustees are looking to recruit a permanent Secretary/Treasurer from July 2018, to work briefly   alongside the existing Secretary/Treasurer, and to take over when he retires, on or about 31 July 2018.  It is anticipated that the job will require a maximum of 4 days per week.

Supporting the Chairman, the Secretary will deliver appropriate and effective governance of the organisation.  You will provide advice to the Board of Trustees, ensuring the charity complies with relevant legislation.  Highly organised and efficient you will see that Trustee Board Meetings run smoothly and effectively; ensuring that they are properly recorded and that Trustees receive appropriate support in the management of any changes proposed by Trustees.  Sometimes working with strictly confidential matters, or communicating with bereaved families, you must be trustworthy, sympathetic and tactful in your approach.

The Treasurer provides an effective financial management service to the charity.  You will have overall responsibility for the immediate processing and paying of awards; the accounting records of the charity; the membership database; preparation of regular management reports; preparation of the annual statutory accounts of the Charity; and liaising with banks, investment managers, and auditors.

It is highly desirable that prospective candidates have a military background with a good knowledge of Army organisation, some knowledge of charity/voluntary sector governance and regulation, good organisational and communication skills, and be IT competent.
