Blesma Member Graham Fergus walked 100 miles in the mountains to raise awareness of homelessness

Former Irish Guardsman and Platoon Sergeant Graham Fergus has completed a 10-day solo trek through the Mourne Mountains for Operation HOME – all to raise awareness of homelessness and support Blesma, The Limbless Veterans.

Armed with only a bivvy bag, a sleeping bag, and a day’s worth of provisions, Graham walked 10 miles a day and rough-slept in the hills, relying on the kindness of local communities to get by.

“Homelessness is not just about people being on the street, it is all around us,” said Graham. “People are displaced all the time and become homeless because of various circumstances, and that puts them in desperate situations. They need help and support”

Having seen the impact of Blesma’s work through close friend and fellow veteran Bryan Phillips, Graham was inspired to turn this challenge into a fundraiser – and raised an incredible £3,000 for the charity.
