Boston Energy names Sailors’ Children’s Society as Charity of the Year with £5,000 fundraising target

Boston Energy has announced Sailors’ Children’s Society as its Charity of the Year, committing to raise at least £5,000 through a series of fundraising activities across the business.

The team has already set its sights on an exciting calendar of events, including taking part in the Hull 10K, a summer skydive challenge, and the Three Peaks Challenge in the autumn. Alongside these headline events, the wider business will be getting involved through activities such as sports days and bake sales to help raise vital funds.

Sailors’ Children’s Society supports children and families from seafaring backgrounds who are facing crisis. Many of the families supported are in the very real position of choosing between heating and eating, with rising energy costs leading to increased demand for support.

Based in Hull but operating nationally, the charity provides monthly grants to help families cover essential costs such as food, gas, and electricity. It also offers school uniform and winter clothing grants, as well as respite opportunities for families who have experienced significant trauma, including bereavement, serious injury at sea, domestic abuse, or family breakdown.

Julian Cattermole, CEO of Boston Energy, said:

“Having served in the Royal Marines, I’ve seen first-hand the resilience required of those who work at sea and the sacrifices their families make. Charities like Sailors’ Children’s Society provide vital support to those families during incredibly challenging times, offering stability when it’s needed most. We’re proud to support such an important cause and are committed to raising meaningful funds to help ensure children and their families receive the care and assistance they deserve.”

This partnership comes at a time when demand for support is increasing, with more families than ever needing help to meet basic living costs. Fundraising initiatives like this will play a vital role in ensuring children receive the stability, warmth, and opportunities they deserve.

Lee Pearson, Partnerships Manager at Sailors’ Children’s Society, said:

“We’re absolutely delighted that Boston Energy has chosen Sailors’ Children’s Society as their Charity of the Year. Their ambitious fundraising target and commitment to a wide range of activities will make a real difference to the families we support. Partnerships like this are vital in helping us continue to provide support to children who are facing incredibly difficult circumstances.”
