Residents and staff from Haig Housing enjoyed a memorable VE Day in the sunshine at the Royal Hospital Chelsea, where the Chelsea Pensioners welcomed them warmly to a small celebration in the Chelsea ‘Village Fete’ yard.
The day was filled with joy and camaraderie, featuring roaming therapy dogs, refreshments, a traditional Punch and Judy show, lawn bowls, and pistol pottery. It was a wonderful opportunity for residents to meet new people and build meaningful connections with those who live and work at the Royal Hospital Chelsea.
Marking the 80th anniversary of Victory in Europe, commemorations were made with reflections and gratitude. Haig residents and staff were honoured to take part in the celebrations.
In the lead up to VE Day, Haig received generous sponsorship from Silver Spoon. Baking goods were delivered to residents planning celebrations with friends and family, encouraging them to come together in their gardens or communal spaces. Additionally, Community Fund supermarket vouchers were provided to support veterans hosting gatherings across Haig estates.
These initiatives reflect Haig’s commitment to fostering meaningful collaboration and building a strong sense of community, ensuring every resident feels supported in organising and enjoying shared events with loved ones.
