Celebrating collaboration between FANY (PRVC) and Royal Star & Garter

A recent fundraising event at the Palace, organised by our Commandant-in-Chief, HRH The Princess Royal, aimed to encourage greater collaboration between the charities for whom she is Patron.

Inspired by what The Princess Royal had suggested, First Aid Nursing Yeomanry (Princess Royal’s Volunteer Corps) (FANY(PRVC)) Commanding Officer, Lisa Giles; the Chair of Royal Star & Garter, Richard Williams MC; and Chief Executive, Andy Cole OBE, met to discuss what collaboration could look like.

Royal Star & Garter is a charity that provides exceptional care for veterans and their partners living with disability or dementia. Hence we discussed how FANYs could support veterans through regular calls and check-ins, drawing on the transferable skills developed during FANYs befriending work at the Nightingale Hospital during COVID.

Royal Star & Garter also has a historic connection to the Corps: Nancy Wake, one of the FANY’s most celebrated members (known as ‘The White Mouse’), was a resident there until her death.  A framed photo of Nancy and some of her medals, along with a White Mouse model are now on loan to the FANY.
