DMWS – Armed Forces Welfare Officer

***THIS JOB VACANCY HAS NOW CLOSED***

Location: Rotherham (based at the Rotherham Hospital)
Contract: Permanent, Part-Time 30 hours per week
Salary: £25,556 (pro rata)
Closing date: 14/01/2024

An exciting opportunity has arisen; do you want to make a real difference to the lives of people who have served in the armed forces and their families? We are looking for someone with strong interpersonal skills, able to work as part of a team and independently, who is compassionate and enthusiastic about supporting the armed forces’ community. If you have family and carers welfare experience, this role may be for you.

DMWS is an international charity that has been providing medical welfare support to the armed forces community for over 80 years. We are now recruiting an Armed Forces Welfare Officer to support the community within The Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust.

Healthcare professionals can achieve significant improvements in physical and mental health issues, but often there can be other challenges that someone in the armed forces community faces that can inhibit their recovery. Mental health concerns, drivers behind substance abuse, social isolation, inappropriate housing, homelessness or financial worries can affect someone’s health. With the wealth of help and support available to the armed forces community, the Armed Forces Welfare Officer will help and support access to these resources, on site at the hospital.

DMWS tackle the non-clinical issues that contribute to delays to going home from hospital including poor physical and mental health, stress and anxiety. With this support, readmission to hospital can be prevented. We operate a holistic model of provision which focuses on three key areas of support: physical, psychosocial and mental health / wellbeing.

All DMWS Armed Forces Welfare Officers need to be prepared to be mobile and deployable. Additionally, you should be willing to work flexibly to meet job demands. In return, you will be working within a dynamic organisation, making a real difference and receiving great benefits, including 30 days leave (pro rata) plus bank holidays, enhanced sick pay, up to 6% matched pension contributions, death in service benefits, access to Smarthealth with a 24/7 virtual GP Service and great training opportunities.
