Job Purpose

Develop and manage effective PR and Talent activity and campaigns, ensuring alignment with PR and Brand strategies

Accountabilities

  • To develop and execute brand PR strategies and plans, which help build brand value, supporter engagement and generate income
  • Work with Brand Marketing Manager to ensure charity brand position works for PR / earned media objectives
  • Manage, lead and develop the Charity’s Talent programme
  • Ensure Regional Comms Officers have what they need for regional PR activation
  • Develop key aspirational media targets and coordinate story placement in long and short-lead outlets, including broadcast media and podcasts
  • Own, develop and manage the activation of relevant PR moments and ongoing strategic themes, including: Charity wide brand platform – identify and develop PR activation, Sport PR – positioning charity as a voice within sports recovery, Gaming – developing charity’s presence in gaming, including developing it’s gaming platform, Hero Up

Main Responsibilities

  • Ensure KPIs, clear target audiences and defined PR objectives are set for all activity and campaigns.
  • Work with all teams, from concept to initiation, to develop integrated PR Communications plans which meet business objectives
  • Ensure that projects run on schedule, meet their targets and promote the organisation in a positive manner
  • Work closely with internal stakeholders to ensure that plans are achievable
  • Work with the PR & Communications team to gather content that fits the Help for Heroes brand
  • Ensure that the PR output for each brand activation is accurately measured and reported in a timely manner
  • Manage forward look / awareness calendar, aligning with the charity-wide agendas
  • Ensure PR activity aligns and promotes brand position
  • Work with Brand Marketing Manager to ensure charity brand position works for PR / earned media objectives
  • Own and develop key target publications that enhance the brand against our PR and broader business objectives, ensuring you and the wider PR and Communications team are working towards securing relevant coverage against them
  • Overall responsibility for developing and updating the forward look / awareness calendar, working with internal stakeholders to align wider charity activity with external news hooks
  • Manage and develop Talent programme
  • Identify and build relationships with new and existing patrons & influencers
  • Identify and develop celebrity partnerships for campaigns, brand activity and mass participation events, including:
  • High profile patron activity strategies
  • Sporting ambassador programme
  • Youth Patrons
  • Lead sell-in stories to the media when required
  • Brief and manage regional / specialist team members and agencies selling stories into the media when required, making sure they deliver to the required standard
  • Cover Out of Hours press office monitoring on a weekly rotational schedule
  • Be a part of the Press Office function
  • Identify reputational issues and raise appropriately

Administration:

  • Adhere to Data Protection Legislation
  • Work with the PR & Communications team to ensure all media coverage is monitored and saved
  • Support events and initiatives at other locations when required
  • Keep abreast / monitor news, current affairs, cultural channels, trends and creative ideas and campaign / newsjacking examples

Essential Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Experience of working at a major consumer PR agency at AM-SAM level, or 5 years in-house experience for a large brand
  • Good at building and maintaining effective relationships
  • Able to produce consistent work with excellent attention to detail
  • Well organised with the ability to prioritise – an ability to plan ahead whilst still able to work at a fast pace with changing priorities
  • Strong experience with media – an understanding of the needs of journalists to generate coverage, and experience dealing with both feature, consumer and current affairs journalists on a daily basis
  • Experience of working on and managing PR, media and multi-channel campaigns
  • Experience working under pressure and with changing priorities
  • Experienced managing a celebrity/influencer programme / have worked with celebrities/influencers on small and large campaigns / activations
  • Confident communication and presentation skills
  • Creativity and initiative
  • Must be aware of the potential impact of actions or decisions to the Help for Heroes brand

Desirable Knowledge, Skills & Experience

  • Qualification in PR, Communications or other relevant University degree
  • Media training experience
  • Experience giving advice in difficult situations in a confidential manner
