The Personal Finance Society (PFS) is the professional body for the financial planning profession in the UK and a part of the Chartered Insurance Institute.
In 2017 the PFS established a pro bono services called Forces MoneyPlan offering free generic financial guidance to Armed Forces personnel and Veterans. This free and confidential service is part of our commitment under the Armed Forces Covenant to help ensure that recipients are placed in a more informed position in respect of their overall financial well-being and less vulnerable to financial misinformation and scams.
Pro bono services are a key offering of most professions and an important part of our ongoing campaign to build trust amongst consumers and membership organisations. The PFS has offered free generic financial guidance via MoneyPlan (a joint initiative with Citizens Advice) for several years and Forces MoneyPlan is a targeted extension of this hugely successful brand initiative.

Forces Moneyplan offers a free, confidential one-off consultation (by phone, face to face or online) with a fully qualified and regulated financial adviser who is a member of the Personal Finance Society and compliant with the societies code of ethics. The financial adviser will provide what is known as generic financial guidance designed to help individuals identify and better understand their financial needs or specific financial issues, services and/or products and make better informed decisions as a result. It will not involve giving personal recommendations about the suitability of specific products or services or their sale or promotion, as this is what is known as regulated financial advice which is outwith the scope of this offering.
Currently Forces MoneyPlan is promoted by several organisations that work in partnership with the PFS . These include:
The Veterans Gateway – all forces veterans can access the service via:
www.thepfs.org/about-us/initiatives//forces-moneyplan/forces-veterans.
The OnCourse Foundation – members of this forces charity can access the service via: www.thepfs.org/about-us/initiatives/forces-moneyplan/on-course-foundation/
Blesma – members of this forces charity can access the service via:

The Forces Pension Society – members of this forces charity can access the service via:

We currently have capacity to work in partnership with additional members of Cobseo and look forward to expanding our service accordingly.
