Forces TV launches on Freeview with host of new content

This October, Forces TV, the home of entertainment and military life, releases a host of new programmes, to mark its launch on Freeview channel 96. The new schedule will combine Forces TV’s unique blend of military and action-themed drama, comedy and factual programming, with news about UK Forces.
Programmes will include: new, exclusive and powerful behind-the-scenes military documentaries Warrior Women: Making US Marines and In Kabul: Britain’s Military in Afghanistan. Cult classics Knight Rider and Street Hawk return to our screens and military favourites including Hogan’s Heroes and Goodnight Sweetheart.

Gurkha Radio BFBS nominated for Audio and Radio Industry Award

The Radio Academy Trustees have shortlisted Gurkha Radio BFBS in the Team of the Year category for the 2017 Audio & Radio Industry Awards (ARIAS).

The 40-strong team broadcasts in the Nepali language from studios in Nepal, Brunei and Kent and the channel plays a key role in supporting the British Army’s Brigade of Gurkhas.

Lisa Davis, Managing Editor of Gurkha Radio BFBS, said: “The Gurkha Radio team is delighted to be nominated in recognition for their hard work and dedication to their audience.

Deadline 31st July! BFBS Big Salute Open for Grant Applications

The BFBS Big Salute fundraising campaign is now inviting forces charities to apply for project-based grants.

Nicky Ness, Director of Forces Broadcasting and Entertainment said: “Since the Big Salute was established in 2007 we’ve donated funds to five core charities, but lots of forces charities have contacted us to find out how they can get involved and benefit.

WIN £500 worth of kit by joining the BFBS Cadet Takeover!

Forces Radio BFBS is challenging cadet members and units worldwide to submit 10-60 second videos that capture their activities.

And now it’s getting competitive as every video is in with a chance of winning £500 worth of kit from The Cadet Kit Shop.

Entries are open now until Friday 1st September 2017, when the winning video will be chosen by the Forces Radio BFBS judges.

Programmes Shortlisted for International Radio Awards

Four documentaries made by presenters and producers from BFBS have been named as finalists for the 2017 New York Festivals World’s Best Radio Programs Awards.

The content explores a range of subjects, all with a military theme, and are recognised for both content and production values.

Forces Media Academy – Last call for applications

The closing date for applications to the Forces Media Academy’s unique media course is this Friday 31st March.

The free Higher National Certificate (HNC) Media Production Course is open to service leavers and veterans, and all students on the one-year course also receive a bursary of £18k.

Students learn alongside industry experts and will be taught core modules such as Camera and Lighting Skills, and Film and Video Editing. Specialist modules include Production of Multi-Media Programmes and Advertising Campaigns.

Queen Officially Unveils Iraq And Afghanistan Memorial

The Queen, Prime Minister Theresa May and former premier Tony Blair were among those paying tribute to the Armed Forces personnel and civilians who served their country during the Gulf War and conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan.

‘We will remember them’ Honouring our UK Armed Forces and Civilians who served their country in Iraq, Afghanistan and the Gulf Region

The Iraq and Afghanistan Memorial will be unveiled on Thursday 9th March.

The service will commemorate the UK Armed Forces and British citizens who volunteered during these conflicts across government, non-government and charity organisations.

The Military Tech Show returns with S2 on Forces TV. Wednesday’s @ 7:30pm

In a brand new series of The Military Tech Show, we explore the latest and most exciting developments in defence and security technology. Forces Media Academy – Open for Applications

Applications are now being accepted for the Forces Media Academy’s unique media course.

The free Higher National Certificate (HNC) Media Production Course is for service leavers or veterans, and all students on the one-year course also receive a bursary of £18k.

The full-time course starts on 25th September 2017 and will run until July 2018 at SSVC’s headquarters in Buckinghamshire, so students will work with award-winning media teams alongside the programme of lectures.
