The Officers’ Association (OA) has secured a corporate membership with The Leaders Club, a networking group that meets in London. This will allow up to 5 serving or former officers from the OA community to join their monthly networking events. *Soldiering on Awards 2018 – Finalists Announced!*

On 10th January 2018, we announced our 43 amazing Finalists for the 2018 Soldiering On Awards from all areas of the UK and all walks of life. Each Finalist will be represented at a special Finalists reception at the House of Lords and will go forward to the Awards Night on the 20th April.
The 2018 Awards include three new Business Award categories in partnership with X-Forces, recognising the exceptional accomplishments of former members of the armed forces in the business community.

Veteran factory Scotland’s Bravest Manufacturing Company announces director

Newly-formed Scotland’s Bravest manufacturing Company, the largest employment development specifically for Scottish veterans in decades, is pleased to announce the appointment of its inaugural director.

Michelle Ferguson, whose previous organisation was twice recognised as finalists in the Scottish Social Enterprise Awards under her stewardship, will take over the Refrewshire-based social enterprise due to launch in June.

What is Sapper Support?

Tim Evers, CEO of Sapper Support, one of our newest members, tells us about the charity and their plans for the future:

“Sapper support came into being after I learned that a friend of mine had taken his own life. He had unbeknown to us, been suffering from PTSD for some time, but as is the way, he kept it to himself. I was upset that he failed to, or thought he couldn’t, approach his friends for help. So, I looked into what help was available. The big charities were all well-established, but there seemed to be something missing….an oversight. There was no 24/7 helpline staffed solely by veterans.

2017 – A year with Future for Heroes

Just when you thought last year’s celebrations were all over and forgotten… here is a round-up of what Future for Heroes achieved in 2017.

129 individuals attended our 10 courses, 74% army, 14% RAF, 5% RN and 7% welfare organisation representatives/training support. Of which 82% were veterans, 10% serving and 8% partners.

The courses take place in The Lake District with The Brathay Trust. Affording among other attributes peace, tranquility and serenity.

RFEA The Forces Employment Charity to deliver the Mayor of London’s programme to support veterans into employment

RFEA The Forces Employment Charity will work with Team London, the Mayor of London’s volunteering programme, to deliver Forces for London. This new initiative is co-funded by the European Social Fund and the Mayor of London to increase the employment rate of veterans in London.

Many veterans struggle to find a job after their military service. By 2020, Forces for London will support 200 veterans who face such barriers, all of whom will receive mentoring support, with 190 completing volunteering, and more than 120 securing meaningful sustained employment, training or education.

A New Year challenge to make a difference to the Armed Forces family

Sign up to the Midlands 30:30 challenge on 17th February for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, helping those in need

SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity is shouting out to the local community to sign up for an exhilarating challenge for 2018 – Midlands 30:30. Consisting of a 30 mile or 30 km trek across the beautiful Uttoxeter countryside whilst wearing 30lb backpacks, teams of four will compete to cross the finishing line.

This year, there is also an adjusted 14:18 route for teams wishing to take on a less daunting challenge, where trekkers will cover 14km carrying 18lb packs.
