Help for Heroes has grant funded more than £1 million to the NHS

Military charity Help for Heroes has grant funded more than £1 million to the NHS to ensure Veterans suffering from mental health problems will get quicker access to support.

Help for Heroes, which offers support to Veterans and Service Personnel who have suffered life changing injuries or illnesses, is grant funding £517,389 to Veterans’ NHS Wales, £431,109 to Pennine Care NHS Foundation Trust and a further £178,000 to The Change Step Project, a Veteran to Veteran peer mentoring scheme.

Celebrating the 40th anniversary since Danny met Sandy and a feeling of Summer Lovin’ swept the nation, local homeless charity Alabaré, are inviting you to their outdoor cinema extravaganza of the iconic musical, Grease!

Film goers will have the chance to see this all-time favourite against the historic backdrop of Old Sarum airfield. So come along to dance and sing the night away on Saturday June 2nd and help raise valuable funds for Alabaré and Our Wilton’s work with homeless and vulnerable veterans.

Widnes blind veteran to take on 22-mile walk along D-Day beaches for military charity

A blind veteran from Widnes is currently training for a 22-mile walk along on the Normandy coastline to commemorate the anniversary of D-Day.

Carl Adamson, 44, will take part in the event alongside five other blind veterans supported by Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for vision-impaired ex-Service men and women. The challenge will take place on 6 June, the anniversary of the 1944 Allied invasion of occupied France.

Carl says: “I’ve been training on the North Wales costal path, which I think should put me in good stead for the Normandy beaches.

BFBS Big Salute Open for Grant Applications

The BFBS Big Salute fundraising campaign is calling for forces charities to apply for project-based grants.

Nicky Ness, Director of Forces Broadcasting and Entertainment, said: “Once again we are inviting charities to get in touch, as the Big Salute can help with specific projects that benefit all areas of the forces community.

“Last year we were able to donate funds to thirteen different charities based nationwide. We look forward to bringing you their stories across our TV, radio and digital platforms.”

Capt James Wadsworth Challenge Events releases details on the next two annual Victory Swims, a challenge offering different swimming lengths and environments

The Victory Swim, the annual water-based challenge supported by the Royal Navy, has announced its dates and details for both 2018 and 2019.

The 2018 event, which will raise money for the Felix Fund, will take place on Thursday 6 September at Waterland Outdoor Pursuits, Lake 32 Cotswold Water Park near Cirencester, Gloucestershire.

Kings Lynn manufacturer chooses local Forces children’s charity as its charity of the year

King’s Lynn based medical device manufacturer, Bespak, has chosen to support its neighbouring charity, Scotty’s Little Soldiers as Charity of the Year.

Scotty’s Little Soldiers, a charity which supports over 300 bereaved Armed Forces children across the UK, was selected following an employee vote to benefit from the company’s support over the next 12 months.

As part of its Charity of the Year commitment, Bespak, the leading developer and manufacturer of complex medical devices, are looking forward to getting involved in the many challenges that Scotty’s Little Soldiers participate in and will be organising a number of fundraising activities.

Each year the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity distributes thousands of pounds across naval ships and establishments, ensuring top-quality facilities for Royal Navy and Royal Marines personnel and their families.

The principal charity of the Royal Navy, the RNRMC, helps the entire naval fleet, be they officers, other ranks or specialisations. The charity is there from day one and every day after, delivering everything from life changing grants during times of need to smaller operational grants that aide morale and retention whilst at sea.

Barbara Windsor visits veterans homeless charity to celebrate refurbishment

Dame Barbara Windsor visits ex-servicemen staying at homeless charity that provides shelter to around 170 people, both serving and veterans.

Celebrating its 175th anniversary year, the Queen Victoria Seamen’s Rest (QVSR) is coming to the end of an extensive refurbishment programme. The Royal British Legion provided a £50,000 grant last year to part-fund the renovation of the bedrooms.

Stoll’s Chief Executive continues preparing for the London Marathon

Stoll’s Chief Executive, Ed Tytherleigh, continues preparing for the London Marathon and we hear an update on how his training is going.

Last month I declared my intention to run the London Marathon on Sunday April 22nd. The attempt is very much on and training is in full swing!

Stoll opens a new housing scheme in Aldershot in May this year and I am running to try and raise £10,000 to support the development.

Some excellent news recently confirmed. Both The Soldiers’ Charity and the RAF Benevolent Fund have agreed continued funding support to our charity. The former with a huge boost to army veterans’ attendance costs for the coming year; the latter with fantastic, always-welcome help towards our operational costs. Many thanks to both organisations for their backing that enables us to offer our personal change programme to the minority of leavers and veterans who may find their transition from the military traumatic or challenging.
