‘Champion of Champions’ Paddy Doyle to complete 550th record

Paddy Doyle, multi Guinness World Record Holder and a Royal British Legion beneficiary, is on target to reach his record 550th physical fitness challenge.

Currently the ‘Champion of Champions’ World Record title holder for the most fitness endurance records in one year, Paddy is now on target to achieve another historic milestone by reaching his 550th documented feat which will take place at The Royal British Legion Club in Berkswell, Solihull at 12pm on 12th February.

Becci set to foil her opponents thanks to the RAF Association

The RAF Association helps many people to achieve their dreams. People like student, Becci Curwen, who finds time in between schoolwork and air cadet meetings, to be a top Great British fencer!

At just 15 years of age, Becci is part of the GB under 17 Fencing Foil team, and at the end of last season ranked sixth in England and 24th in Great Britain. She has now jumped to 13th place in the GB rankings, after some fantastic results.

Blind Veterans UK supports GP training days to improve understanding of veterans’ health

National military charity Blind Veterans UK is involved in an innovative joint project supporting Health Education England in delivering a series of half day and full day training sessions on veterans’ healthcare for GPs across England.

Blind Veterans UK, which provides free services and support for all veterans, no matter when they served and how they lost their sight, was approached to take part in the programme which launched in 2015 and delivered its first training event of 2017 this week in Lancaster

Britain’s oldest Bomber Command pilot celebrates his 100th Birthday at Princess Marina House

On Tuesday 17 January, Bomber Command veteran, Bill Lucas, marked his 100th Birthday at the RAF Benevolent Fund’s Princess Marina House.

More than 65 guests joined Bill and his wife Sheena to mark the momentous occasion, with a special appearance from XV Squadron, one of Bill’s former Squadrons. Pilot Joe Rigg and Navigator Mark Swinton travelled down from RAF Lossiemouth and presented the centenarian with a commemorative print. During his RAF career, Bill completed more than 80 missions including the 1,000 bomber raid on Cologne in 1942 and was subsequently awarded the Distinguished Flying Cross.

Get fit and lean in 2017 for disabled veterans

Worthing-based charity, The Queen Alexandra Hospital Home (QAHH), is calling on local people to join their Worthing 10k running team, and help raise vital funds for disabled ex-Servicemen and women.
The Worthing 10k is one of the largest and friendliest running events in the south east, welcoming runners of all abilities to the flat seafront course on Sunday 4 June.

Independent medical study confirms significant health benefits of the Deptherapy Scuba Diving Programme

An independent Service Evaluation Study by the University of Sheffield Medical School has recorded a significant improvement in the general wellbeing and mental health of military veterans who have completed the PADI Deptherapy programme.

Fifteen ex-Service personnel took part in the ground-breaking study by medical students from November to December 2016. Each of the 15 participants had experienced a variety of physical injuries as a result of combat and some had recorded an additional diagnosis of Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD).
