About us

For over 90 years, the RAF Association have championed a simple belief – that no member of the RAF community should ever be left without the help that they need. The RAF Association is one of the leading providers of welfare assistance to the RAF community and we exist to ensure that their sacrifice does not result in suffering, poverty, loneliness or isolation. Last year, we supported over 85,500 members of the RAF community who required practical, emotional or financial assistance. For the sake of everyone who needs our help, we continue to evolve and innovate to meet new challenges and remain at the leading edge of service provision. We champion the best interests of the RAF community and work together to make sure no one is ever left behind.

About the job

In early 2022, the RAF Association and the RAF Benevolent Fund were awarded a grant from the Armed Forces Covenant Fund Trust to deliver a grants programme to fund activities designed to attract and support RAF veterans of conflicts in Iraq and Afghanistan. Overseen by the Project Management Board (PMB), the Project Manager will co-ordinate and support delivery and implementation of the programme, consisting of:

  • An awareness campaign
  • A grants programme
  • Evaluation process

Working collaboratively with internal stakeholders from both organisations and external contractors as directed, the Project Manager will also contribute to the overall success of the project by serving as a point of contact for advice and guidance to grantee organisations, support ongoing engagement with key audiences, and engage in grant activity to support effective evaluation.

The job will be based at the RAF Association HQ (LE3 1UT) however we offer some agile homeworking. You will be part of a committed team and achieve the real satisfaction of seeing the difference this makes to the RAF community we support.

About you

Whilst knowledge of the RAF, its structure and wider community will stand you in excellent stead for this role, our ideal candidate will have experience working within the third sector, delivering programmes of activity that benefit a group or community. A Project Management qualification would be desirable, however more importantly you will be able to evidence a proven track record of complex project management. Due to  the collaborative nature of this new project, we need you to be an excellent communicator across a wide range of stakeholders and enjoy the challenge of being a proactive ‘hands on’ problem solver.  The role will require you to produce succinct and accurate reports to the project board and therefore you will need to be a confident speaker and networker.  The role requires occasional travel throughout the UK at various stages of the project and  we need you to be able to work flexibly to accommodate the deadlines of project stages.  We hope our ideal candidate is available to commence work on/around 1st July 2022.

Overall, we are looking for a passionate individual who has the desire to use their knowledge and experience for a wider social purpose and as a result you will gain immense job satisfaction from seeing this worthwhile project through to fruition

It is highly recommended that you read the supporting role profile and person specification prior to applying for the role.  This is available to download here and on our website www.rafa.org.uk
