The RNA is the largest of the Naval Associations, formed under Royal Charter in 1954 and traces its history back before the Second World War in Old Comrades Associations. The Association is primarily branch-based with 300 branches in the UK and overseas.  The RNA is mostly about comradeship in its many forms – from branch and national events to major projects supporting socially and digitally isolated naval veterans.  We have a formal Charter and Collaboration Agreement with the Royal Navy and work closely with the RN in supporting service leavers in transition and trainees in understanding the Culture, Ethos and Values of the Royal Navy.  The RNA plays an important part in national, regional and local remembrance and commemoration events.

The RNA is currently running some exciting and innovative projects:

  • Project Semaphore to provide on-line access to digitally isolated veterans
  • Shipmates and Oppos programme supporting service leavers
  • LIBOR buses for socially isolated veterans

If you are looking to lead an innovative, interesting and fun organisation with great capacity to do good in the community and for individuals, this may the job for you.  Leading a small, dedicated staff the General Secretary has key roles with supporting the National Council of the RNA; within the wider veteran community; and particularly with the Conference of Naval Associations and the International Maritime Confederation.  The current General Secretary, Captain Paul Quinn OBE RN is retiring in September 2017 and the National Council of the RNA is looking to recruit a successor.  The recruitment is timed to allow the appointed person to attend the RNA’s annual Conference in Dublin (8/9/10 June) as an observer before taking up duties in late August.
