Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity launch third ‘Stand Easy’ Coffee Morning to Raise Awareness for Mental Health

The Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) is inviting supporters, for the third year, to host a Stand Easy Coffee morning during Mental Health Awareness Week 2024 to raise funds to support the Naval community.

‘Stand Easy’ is a term traditionally used to announce the ship’s crew sanctioned break. This is a time when sailors and marines sit down, have a ‘wet’ (drink) and connect with their ‘oppos’ (friends). By inviting people to host their own Stand Easy coffee mornings, the RNRMC hopes to encourage people to take time out of their day to unwind and chat with their family, friends or colleagues.

People are invited to get involved between 13 – 19 May, however they can.

The money raised through the Stand Easy campaign will help the RNRMC provide crucial support to members of the Naval community who need it most.

Supporting mental health within the Royal Navy community is a central strand of the RNRMC’s work. Through partnerships with a wide range of military and civilian organisations they provide quality care and support for those suffering from complex mental health issues, funding treatment, counselling, and outreach services. From improving social spaces on ships and bases, to helping elderly veterans remain connected, RNRMC funded projects help combat the causes of mental health issues such as loneliness and isolation, as well as managing the effects.

Pamela Russell, Senior Events Coordinator at the RNRMC, said:

“Demand for our assistance in mental health support has never been higher, and it is only thanks to our fantastic supporters that we are able to continue to meet this demand. As always, we are excited about this year’s Stand Easy campaign, and encourage people of all ages and walks of life to get involved for a fantastic cause. The funds raised will go towards vital support for the Naval community, including within the areas of Mental Health and wellbeing.”

Anybody is welcome to take part in the event and can do so by signing up here: www.rnrmc.org.uk/stand-easy.

Upon signing up, you’ll have the opportunity to choose between a free physical or a digital fundraising pack. You can host your Stand Easy coffee morning at any point between 13 and 19 of May, on your own terms – there is not a minimum amount of money you need to raise and no other obligations.  Whether it’s a cuppa with colleagues or cake with family- relax, down tools and make the event your own!
