Scotty’s Little Soldiers is asking Cobseo Members to help reach those affected by military-connected bereavement by sharing a new survey across their organisations, memberships and networks, ensuring future support is shaped by lived experience.
After more than 15 years of experience working with bereaved military families daily, Scotty’s is preparing to use that experience to help others affected by bereavement within the British military community. Over the past couple of years, Scotty’s has been researching the need for wider support and in 2026 will be sharing the new vision for Scotty’s going forward.
Before finalising future plans, Scotty’s wants to listen to the people it plans to help and has launched a confidential online survey to hear directly from people affected by bereavement with a military connection. Insight gathered through the survey will help the charity better understand where support is most needed and how it can be strengthened.
Scotty’s wants to hear from anyone affected by a military-connected bereavement, regardless of cause of death, role or relationship. To give just a few examples, this includes serving personnel whose partner or spouse died, parents whose son or daughter died while training, siblings of veterans, and those affected by the death of a close serving colleague.
Participation in the survey is voluntary, responses are strictly confidential, and individuals can skip any questions they are not comfortable answering. The survey is live until the end of January.
Scotty’s existing services for children and young people will not change. Children and young people will always remain at the heart of the charity’s work but is now on a mission to support and empower anyone affected by military bereavement. This activity is about listening carefully to the wider community before expanding support.
Scotty’s is asking Cobseo Members to help by sharing the survey through newsletters, email bulletins, social media channels and professional networks, helping it reach those whose experiences should guide the future of bereavement support.
A short video message from Nikki Scott, founder of Scotty’s, accompanies the survey and explains why lived experience has always driven the charity’s work.
