Serving Royal Navy Duo take on Race Across the UK in support of the Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity

The Blister Sisters, based at RNAS Yeovilton, are preparing to swap their uniforms for running shoes and cycling gear as they take on Race Across the UK – all in support of Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC).

Race Across the UK invites participants to embark on a once-in-a-lifetime adventure, travelling from Edinburgh to Dartmouth without map apps, cars or planes – relying solely on their wits, a map, and what they can carry – all to raise vital funds in support of Naval families.

Jess and Yas first became friends while serving in the same Royal Navy fire crew, bonding over a shared passion for physical challenges and charitable giving. The idea to take on Race Across the UK came about, fittingly, over a coffee break! What started as a casual chat soon turned into a bold commitment to push themselves mentally and physically.

“Just taking part in something so different and knowing the feeling we’ll have at the finish line – having navigated our way across the UK – is something we’re both really looking forward to.”

Understanding first-hand the unique pressures of military life, the pair is taking on this challenge to raise vital funds and awareness for a cause close to their hearts.

They said:

“We’re fundraising for Royal Navy & Royal Marines Charity because it truly matters to us, both personally and professionally. RNRMC ensures that those who serve and their families are supported, no matter the challenge. Whether it’s helping a family through a loss, supporting veterans transitioning to civilian life, or providing mental health resources, this charity genuinely makes a difference.”

The team is embracing grassroots fundraising efforts with a string of bake sales across base, as well as a raffle to be held on Families Day, helping to rally their community behind the cause.

“We’re trying to keep it fun and engaging. People love a good cake and a good cause, so it’s a win-win!”

When asked what advice they’d give to others considering a challenge like this, they said:

“Just do it! Push yourself out of your comfort zone and take every opportunity you get.”
