SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, exists to relieve need, suffering and distress amongst the Armed Forces, veterans and their families in order to support their independence and dignity. SSAFA is one of the UK’s leading military charities, and has been providing lifelong support to our Forces and their families for over 130 years. Last year we supported over 67,000 people through our network of 6,500 volunteers and professional staff.
The Director of Fundraising is a crucial part of the top team at SSAFA, reporting directly to the Controller (Chief Executive). Our Fundraising team prides itself on the creation of different ways to inspire and encourage the public, and our existing supporters, to play their part in working towards reducing the suffering of our beneficiaries.
You will lead and develop SSAFA’s organisation-wide approach to strategic and impactful fundraising across the UK. You will be responsible for creating collaborative relationships with SSAFA supporters, celebrities, philanthropists and high net worth individuals, and leading our approach to trusts, foundations and grant making bodies.
To succeed, you will:
- Be an experienced leader with excellent strategic, planning, analytical and evaluative skills, able to contribute to wider corporate strategy.
- Have a track record of developing and delivering growth strategies resulting in sustainable increases in voluntary income.
- Have experience of leading, managing and inspiring teams to achieve ambitious objectives and help individuals to develop their experience and reach their full potential.
- Have experience of briefing, engaging and working with trustees, senior volunteers and other senior stakeholders.
- Have experience of more than one fundraising discipline and a track record of delivering innovative campaigns and sustained growth.
This is an exceptional opportunity for a passionate and committed individual to make a lasting impact on the organisation at a key point in its development. You will work in close collaboration with the Marketing and Communications team to maximise the impact of your campaigns as well as colleagues involved in service delivery across the organisation.
Critical to your success will be your dynamic and inspiring approach, and your ability to be strategically focused and self-motivated.
