A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a full time Regional Mentoring Co-ordinator to join the Mentoring Team at SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity.

SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, supports the person behind the uniform; any time they need us, in any way they need us, for as long as they need us. Every year, SSAFA helps more than 82,000 people from the Forces family to get back on their feet; those currently serving, reserves, veterans and their families. Support is there for people at any stage in their military career; from the youngest recruit to the oldest veteran – no one’s service is ever forgotten. We give hope, help and personal support for as long as it takes to get that person’s life back to where they want it to be.

About the role     

This is an excellent opportunity to join a small team of dedicated staff that provide a specialist service to service leavers and their families.

We are seeking an enthusiastic and passionate mentor coordinator to join our mentoring service, with the ability to manage and support SSAFA beneficiaries and volunteer mentors.

Under the direction of the Mentoring Service Manager and Head of Specialist Services you will act as an operational point of contact for your area of responsibility.

You will be required to conduct specialist needs assessments to potential beneficiaries.   Monitor, support and review the mentoring relationships with regular engagement with the volunteers.    The role will require you to coordinate, manage and record the work of all volunteer mentors.   You will also be tasked with briefing, presenting, and coordinating the engagement of Key stake holders in your area of responsibility.

This role is home based with extensive travel across the area of responsibility.

About the team

The specialist services team provide a range of services to our beneficiaries and volunteers, including mentoring, support in the criminal justice service, Gurkha support and casework support.  The team is extremely diverse all have a range of skills and experiences that complement and support each other. We have a very good team ethic and although the services are independently run, they complement and overlap. 

About you

To carry out this role successfully you will be able to work as a team, whilst being motivated to work independently.   Ideally you will have experience of managing a large geographic area. Have excellent communication and IT skills a good understand of MS Office 365 including databases.   Volunteer/ people management would be beneficial whilst a willingness to learn and a passion for making a difference is essential. Knowledge of the Armed Forces and Ex-Forces community would be an advantage but is not essential.
