SSAFA – Senior Legacy Officer

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for a full time Senior Legacy Officer to join the Fundraising team at SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity.

SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity, has been providing lifelong support to our Forces and their families since 1885. Last year our teams of volunteers and employees helped more than 85,000 people in need, from Second World War veterans to young men and women who have served in more recent conflicts, and their families. SSAFA understands that behind every uniform is a person. We are here for that person – any time they need us, in any way they need us, for as long as they need us.

About the role

You will be responsible for administering a caseload of contentious and non-contentious pecuniary, residuary and life interest legacies, ensuring that the charity receives its full entitlement in a timely manner and maximising value wherever possible. You will also assist the Head of Individual Giving & Legacies in ensuring that supporters are made aware of free will writing services and the opportunity to remember SSAFA in their wills.

About the team 

You will join an enthusiastic and dedicated fundraising team whose ambition is to ensure our supporters are inspired by the charity’s work and have the best possible supporter experience. This role is within the Individual Giving & Legacy team. 

About you

To carry out this role successfully you will have significant experience in Legacy Administration, with a sound knowledge of Probate and Trust Law.  You will be highly organised with excellent computer skills, strong attention to detail, ability to research, analytical, efficient and an effective problem solver. You will also hold a recognised legal/ legacy profession qualification such as a Solicitor qualification, ILEX, ILM Certificate in Charity Legacy Administration (CiCLA)/ or STEP qualification.

You must also have excellent interpersonal and diplomatic skills in order to manage relationships with professional and non-professional executors, as well as next of kin.
