We want to thank everyone for their kind messages and the outpouring of love and respect shown for Nicola from people who have worked alongside her for decades, to individuals that only met her once. It is heartwarming to know the sentiment is shared.
Professor Nicola Fear CBE was not only an exceptional military epidemiologist and leader but also a mentor and friend to so many within our community. It is well known that Nicola was incredibly devoted to championing the training and advancement of early career researchers, and that she was a foundational support and inspiration in so many researchers’ careers.
To honour Nicola’s enduring legacy, her close friend has set up a GoFundMe raising funds to establish the ‘Townsend Fear Fellowship in Occupational Epidemiology’ through the Colt Foundation. This fellowship will provide an early-career researcher with protected time to think, learn and produce meaningful work. If you are in a position to give, please consider contributing towards this fund to help continue Nicola’s legacy, or sharing this with your own networks.
