VOS has been operating in Portsmouth since 2008, originally set up by veterans of the Falklands Conflict, to provide mental healthcare and mental wellbeing support to veterans of all the UK Armed Forces, the Merchant Marine, and their families.  It provides monthly Drop-Ins in Portsmouth and Isle of Wight that offer a wide range of support from housing, employment, financial, legal, and a variety of social interventions alongside clinical mental health triage, which you would be part of.  In 2017 the charity was awarded the Queens Award for Voluntary Service and is a member of COBSEO (Confederation of Service Charities). It has an active role within the Portsmouth Military Mental Health Alliance and is currently working towards accreditation with the Quality Network for Veterans Mental Health Services (QNVMHS), overseen by the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

We have dedicated offices at the Royal Maritime Club – one of the oldest hotels in Portsmouth, first established in Queen Street in 1853.  At the hotel we have therapy rooms and space for clinics to be held, there is also onsite parking and a multistorey car park opposite.  We also host clinics on the Isle of Wight.

You will be an experienced Clinical Psychologist, ideally with a background in trauma focussed care, providing psychological assessments and therapy alongside a dedicated multi-disciplinary clinical team, which ensures that service users receive the highest standard of quality care.  You will be able to offer a blended service, including both face to face and online psychological services from our premises in the Royal Maritime Club, Portsmouth, Hampshire, and from other peripatetic premises in Gosport, and possibly the Isle of Wight.

Essential criteria include: HCPC or BPS registered; current driving licence.

  • Monitoring the progress of service users through meetings and sessions
  • Helping service users make positive progress in their lives and providing support and advice to Carers where appropriate
  • Provision of supervision to clinical staff in VOS
  • There may be some management responsibilities associated with this role.

You will be able to work autonomously and be adept in the timely compilation of professional clinical records, to monitor client progress toward successful outcomes, working with other team members in clinical management, psychology, therapy and substance misuse recovery, as well as wider members of the VOS non-clinical team. You will also work alongside outside agencies in support of our beneficiaries.

You will also be a strong advocate for UK Armed Forces and Merchant Navy veterans and their families. The role is on an employed basis of up to 2-3 days a week.

VOS provides a range of therapy options, substance misuse recovery support, wellbeing activities and welfare support to tackle loneliness.
