A man Brighton is relishing his role as a volunteer for Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for vision-impaired ex Service men and women.
Tony Weston, 66 and originally from Newcastle, began volunteering for the charity at its training and rehabilitation centre in Ovingdean in 2016 following his retirement. He says “I worked for 50 years – long hours too – so going from that to nothing was hard. I didn’t know what to do but I knew I needed something to keep me busy.”

Schera Masters, 97 and from Ilford, was formally presented with France’s highest order by Madame Sylvie Bermann, the French Ambassador to the United Kingdom, in a prestigious ceremony at her official residence in Kensington Palace Gardens. The presentation, which took place on Tuesday January 30, was attended by Schera’s friends and family, as well as representatives from Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for vision-impaired ex-Service men and women.

Charlie Parkinson, 40 and originally from Wallasey, joined the 1st Battalion Kings Regiment in January 1995, serving in Catterick, Cyprus and Jordan. In 1998, Charlie left the army, before re-enlisting in November 2001, ultimately joining the Royal Army Medical Corps in 2002.

Read moreIt was announced today (03/02) that Ray Hazan OBE has stepped down after more than 13 years as President of Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for vision-impaired ex-Service men and women. Colin Williamson, a blind veteran from Tyne and Wear, has become the charity’s sixth President.
Ray, 71 and from Seaford, was the fifth President in Blind Veterans UK’s 102-year-history and his role was the pinnacle of more than 40 years’ working with the charity.
