Gloucester Homes for Veterans welcome Lieutenant General Timothy Buchan Radford

Alabaré’s Gloucestershire Home for Veterans were delighted to welcome Commander of the Allied Rapid Reaction Corps, Lieutenant General Timothy Buchan Radford, CB, DSO, OBE to visit the service.

The visit came about after our padre LT-Col Grant-Jones of the Allied Rapid Reaction Corps spoke of his desire to invite the commander to our services to demonstrate the excellent work carried out by our Gloucester team.

Alongside Lieutenant General Timothy Buchan Radford and Lt Col Grant-Jones, was Lt Col Richard Smith who is soon to be Padre to ARRC and Padre for our Gloucestershire Home as of August 2018.

RNAS hosts two veterans and the Chairman of the Spirit of Normandy Trust at Southwick House the Allied Headquarters for the D Day Landings

RNAS 1710 recently hosted two veterans and the Chairman of the Spirit of Normandy Trust at Southwick House the Allied Headquarters for the D Day Landings. Patrick Thomas and Wally Beall were able to visit the famous map room where the D Day map wall still portrays the situation at H Hour on D Day. They were both looked after very well my the Royal Navy and the Royal Military Police, who are now based at Southwick Park.

A poem to find peace

A recent email from a family, who benefitted from our services, has highlighted once again how a break away can really help in the recovery process. Glen suffers from PTSD and his respite break at the Heroes Haven Swanage was the chance for him and his family to reconnect after a long period of suffering and hardship.

“Heroes Haven Swanage was a very relaxing location and allowed me to gather my thoughts”, Glen explained, “I even started to write poetry in the gardens as I truly found peace. I have added the poem I wrote in the garden at Heroes Haven.”

High Sheriff Visits Alabaré’s Gloucestershire Homes for Veterans

On Monday 24th July Alabaré’s Gloucestershire Homes for Veterans welcomed the new High Sheriff of Gloucestershire, Lt Col Andrew Tabor JP, and his wife Lou to the home.

They met with a number of the Veterans, and having served as a Commissioned Officer in the British Army, Lt Col Tabor was able to connect and speak warmly with the residents within the home. Colonel (Retd) Ian Harris (Chairman of the Gloucestershire Ambassadors – Homes for Veterans, Alabaré) accompanied the visit as well as Major Charles Malet.

Lloyd’s Military Network, with the help of the Careers Transition Partnership and the Officers’ Association, have organised an insight day to provide an overview to interested transitioning individuals.

The London insurance market is a unique but largely unknown industry at the heart of the City of London. However, many of the skill sets and characteristics held by ex-military and serving reservists are highly valued and sought after.

NFA Supporter Funds Veterans’ Trip On Bluebell Railway

This week the NFA took a group of more than 50 veterans from service care homes and associations across the south east of England for a lunchtime trip on the Bluebell Railway. This popular annual outing gives guests the opportunity to socialise with like-minded people for a few hours and, judging by the smiles and laughter, everyone soon got to know each other.
