The Spinnaker Tower Abseil, which has been fantastically organised by our Home Counties office since 2013, is just one of the extreme events that ABF The Soldiers’ Charity offers. Soaring 170 metres above Portsmouth Harbour and the Solent, the Emirates Spinnaker Tower is taller than the London Eye, Blackpool Tower and Big Ben, and has already established itself as a national icon for Britain.

Turn to Starboard is a registered charity based in Falmouth Marina in Cornwall, using sail training to support Armed Forces personnel affected by military operations. Burke, who was a judge for The Soldiers’ Charity Photo competition this year, plays Afghanistan veteran turned Private Investigator who is exploring a botched murder.

SSAFA’s Casework service provides much-needed welfare advice and support for our soldiers and veterans. Our grant will help with the training of SSAFA’s network of 4,000 caseworker volunteers who meet with potential beneficiaries to find out what help they need and offer support.

Despite challenging weather conditions, this year’s Yomp saw the most participants ever in the seven years it has been running, with the highest amount ever – 499 – completing the Gold Route. A staggering £35,850 was raised on the Friday at Royal Ascot for the three leading Armed Forces charities, the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity, ABF The Soldiers’ Charity and the Royal Air Force Benevolent Fund.
For the fifth year running military personnel joined racegoers for Royal Ascot’s unofficial Armed Forces Day. In addition to special ticket offers for military personnel, 80 volunteers from the Royal Navy, Royal Marines, Army, and Royal Air Force carried out collections for their principal charities.
This year, the generous racegoers donated an incredible £22,103 in just two hours. The sale of 5,499 jugs of Pimms led to a further donation of £13,747 bringing the total to £35,850 for the day.

Supported by the Trustees of Ascot Racecourse, there were two-for-one tickets available to the Armed Forces and their guests, which included exclusive access to the Armed Forces bar and lounge. Proving to be a popular event, an impressive 2,650 tickets were sold!
Read moreOn Saturday 5th August, a team of 17 veterans will commence the epic Turn to Starboard Round Britain Challenge 2017. The eight-week journey, which covers a vast 2,000 miles, is all-hands-on-deck, with each crew member living, working and sleeping every moment on the 92-foot tall vessel, Spirit of Falmouth, donated to the charity by The Prince’s Trust.
Read moreOn 29th June 2017, Andy Reid and Glen Hughes paddled their way past the Houses of Parliament and underneath Westminster Bridge to signal the end of their epic, 14-day adventure, which began in Lytham St Annes, Lancashire. Blood, sweat and tears were put into this enormously challenging feat, which saw both men cycle 400 miles and kayak an impressive 125 miles in just two weeks. They were also joined by Andy North, a cycling world record holder from Ultra6, who ran a marathon alongside them every day, for 10 days of the Challenge.
