Lace up with team SSAFA for the Aberdeen Kiltwalk

SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity is calling on Aberdeen residents to lace up their trainers, don their kilts and sign up to take part in the Kiltwalk on Sunday 3 June.

Participants can choose from a 23, 15 or 6 mile walk through Aberdeen to raise money for the SSAFA Aberdeen branch, who provide support to veterans and their families in the area. From the funds raised the Hunter Foundation will add an extra 40%.

Military Families with Additional Needs Invited to FANDF Conference

SSAFA-run conference on 11th June to host free information, specialist support and access to policy makers

SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity is encouraging all tri-Service families who have family members with additional needs to attend a biennial conference on 11th June at the MOD main building, London.

This year, the overarching theme of the FANDF conference will be ‘Myth Busting’ – aiming to share knowledge and experience between experts and fellow families.

Military personnel are renowned for their fantastic parenting due to the discipline, camaraderie and dependability which they develop as a result of their career. However, assumptions and stereotypes surrounding the Armed Forces can often make it difficult for serving personnel to adopt through local authorities.

SSAFA, the UK’s oldest Armed Forces charity, understands the particular challenges that military families face during the adoption process, and has been helping the community to adopt for over 30 years through their unique SSAFA Adoption Service.

Kent Police and SSAFA launch new service to support Armed Forces community in the Criminal Justice System

Kent Police is working with SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity to identify serving personnel, veterans and their families in custody.

Individuals can then refer themselves to the charity or a Kent Police officer or staff member can make the referral on their behalf.

They will then be able to gain access to practical, emotional and financial advice through SSAFA, which it is hoped will lessen their chances of coming into contact with the police again in the future.

Army Veteran, Dave Mills, has pledged to walk for the next two years for SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity

Yesterday Army veteran Dave Mills set off on his two-year-long fundraiser, walking around the globe to raise money for SSAFA. On a sunny Monday morning, Sir Andrew Gregory CEO of SSAFA and fellow staff gathered to wave him off from the significant starting place of the Cenotaph in London.

SSAFA Adoption Service celebrates LGBT Adoption Week

SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity is celebrating LGBT Adoption Week by reflecting on the developments of inclusion and diversity in its Adoption Service over the past year.

SSAFA runs an independent adoption agency that works with local authorities to provide support for anyone who is currently serving who wishes to create a family through adoption. The service has approved 328 military adopters since 1964 and offers lifelong support to families.

Annington Trust supports SSAFA’s 2018 Short Breaks provision for serving military families

SSAFA is delighted to announce that the Annington Trust has awarded a grant of £6,000 to support SSAFA’s new Short Breaks provision in 2018. The grant will enable SSAFA to offer places on the breaks at a reduced cost to families who have a child with an additional need and/or disability.

Two weekend-long breaks will be available in spring and winter for up to 90 family members. SSAFA will work in partnership with the Calvert Trust, Exmoor which offers a safe and supportive environment specifically designed for those with physical, learning, behavioural and sensory disabilities.

SSAFA Mentoring Service awarded NCVO Accreditation

SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity has been awarded an accreditation from the NCVO(1) for its mentoring service, which supports and empowers veterans during their transition back to civilian life.

The NCVO Approved Provider Standard (APS) recognised the exceptional work of the mentoring service including its practices in management and operation, the processes for identifying service leavers in need, support of volunteer mentors and the results achieved through the service.

Spectacular Battle Proms Picnic Concert Joins Forces with SSAFA, the Armed Forces Charity

Military themed spectacle raising money for personnel, veterans and their families

Tickets are now on sale for the Battle Proms, a spectacular series of open-air picnic concerts in support of SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity working with personnel, veterans and their families.

Battle Proms is a summer celebration with live orchestral music, carefully choreographed Spitfire and parachute displays, dramatic cannon fire and cavalry displays with a spectacular musical firework finale. The annual spectacular is set to return to historical British venues this summer, due to popular demand.
