Prince Harry joins Veteran’s Mental Health Conference with Heads Together

Prince Harry attended a Veterans’ Mental Health Conference at King’s College London today where he led a panel discussion with three veterans on the power of conversations and getting the right mental health support.

At the event, organised by the King’s Centre for Military Health Research with Forces in Mind Trust, His Royal Highness also met an inspirational pair of injured UK and US veterans who are running this year’s Boston and London Marathons, six days apart, to raise awareness of military mental health issues.

Leading veterans’ mental health experts gathered today (Thursday 16th March) to discuss international perspectives on the mental health of the Armed Forces Community. They were joined by Prince Harry at King’s College London for the annual event, which for the second year running was sponsored solely by the Forces in Mind Trust (FiMT).

World-class speakers from leading UK and international institutions working in the field of veterans’ mental health gave a series of wide-ranging presentations and hosted debates. Prince Harry led a panel discussion with three former members of the UK and US Armed Forces who spoke about their personal experiences of addressing and managing mental health challenges, and the importance of encouraging open conversations about mental health.

Edinburgh school takes on military marching competition for UK’s service charities

Pupils from George Watson’s College take to drill for Red, White & Blue Day

On March 16th, senior pupils from George Watson’s College in Edinburgh took part in a special military marching house competition to raise awareness for Red, White & Blue Day, a national fundraising day for the UK’s main service charities that the School has supported regularly over the last few years. The competition saw the pupils battle against each another in their respective school Houses, with the winners being chosen by the Garrison Sergeant Major of the Edinburgh Army Garrison.

Cricket legends return of The Soldiers’ Charity T20 City Invitational match

England cricketer Mark Ramprakash will be returning to the Honourable Artillery Company (HAC) on 31st May to lead a special charity T20 match in aid of ABF The Soldiers’ Charity. Mark will be returning as the victorious captain after leading the Soldiers’ Charity XI side to victory in the 2016 City Invitational Cup.

Fully funded training at Finchale for the unemployed

Funded training is to be provided to unemployed people across County Durham, Tyne and Wear and Northumberland to give them a better chance of finding a job.

Health, training and work experts, Finchale, an independent charity based in Durham, is to deliver RTITB Forklift Truck training in partnership with Gateshead College. Through funding from the European Social Fund matched by the Skills Funding Agency, we are able to offer training at no cost to individuals who wish to retrain in order to gain employment.

GCHQ poppy waterfall gets a second life at Cheltenham Town Hall

GCHQ and The Cheltenham Trust have joined forces to bring the giant ‘waterfall’ of over 9,000 handmade poppies, which helped to launch the Royal British Legion Gloucestershire County Poppy Appeal 2016, to Cheltenham Town Hall until April.

This also marks an exciting new venture for The Cheltenham Trust by using its five venues, including the Town Hall, to bring arts displays to unexpected places to support community projects. Located in the historic spa well area of the Town Hall where the spa waters were once pumped to the surface for its restorative properties, the poppies will stand from floor ceiling filled by the natural light of the stairwell.

Mal on a Mission

WHEN you’ve been shot at by snipers in Gornji Vakuf at the height of the Bosnian war, running around a lake in the middle of the night will hold few fears for former Sergeant Major Mal Bellamy.

The 42-year-old has made the switch from serving his country to raising money for veterans under the banner of the Royal British Legion.

Not content with doing a pitch black sponsored run around Kielder Lake, Northumberland this Mothers’ Day, Mal has also signed up to be the Legion’s Poppy Appeal Organiser for 2017 in his home town of Appleby, Cumbria.

Afghanistan veteran takes on Nuclear races for Military Charity 

A former solider, who lost his right leg whilst serving in Afghanistan, is taking on his first mud run since he was injured to support Blesma, the Limbless Veterans.

Matty Woollard, 28, from Colchester, will battle the muddy obstacle course at Nuclear Races, Brentwood in May in support of Blesma for the help they have given him since he was injured.
