Two-day ‘Supporting Seafarers’ conference coincided with launch of ten-year research report

Ten years on from the publication in 2007 of ‘Supporting Seafarers and their Families: Challenges for the Future’, a new report, ‘Navigating Change – A Review of the UK Maritime Welfare Charity Sector’ is being released at a major conference in London on 16-17 October.

Despite its huge scope, from small fishing vessels to large container ships, naval vessels and superyachts, the maritime welfare sector is one of the few industries to attempt to research and define the needs of its communities in order to better allocate charitable resources.

The Mountbatten Festival of Music 2018

The Mountbatten Festival of Music is to change its performance times to enable more people the opportunity to attend this spectacular event. For the first time, 2018 will see a Saturday afternoon performance beginning at 2.00pm. It is hoped that this matinee performance will allow people to travel to London from all over the country and still be able to get home the same day. Military charity Walking With The Wounded (WWTW) is estimating it will treble the number of ex-servicemen and women it supports in 2018, following a 97% increase last year to more than 1,000. With Christmas fast approaching, for many a time of financial pressure and loneliness, more ex-service personnel than ever require support.

Veterans Minister to Promote ‘Military is Good for Business’

The Rt Hon Tobias Ellwood MP will outline why business should recruit former officers, at an OA event in London.

As Parliamentary Under Secretary of State and Minister for Defence People and Veterans, Mr Ellwood will highlight that ‘Military is Good for Business’. As a former Army captain, he understands the career challenges officers face on leaving the Armed Forces. Former Trade Minister and Crossbench Peer, Lord Digby Jones, and Chief of Defence People, Lieutenant General Richard Nugee, will also attend.

Officers’ Association Supports Launch of New Military Networking Group in Wales

The Porffor Group, a new network in Cardiff for people who are serving and former military Personnel, is launching later this month.

The group’s first event is on Thursday 26th October 2017, at The Hopbunker in Cardiff (The Kingsway, CF10 3FD).

It was founded by John Solosy, a Chartered Financial Planner who previously served as an Army Major.

The Officers’ Association have partnered with the University of the West of England as part of their annual Bristol Distinguished Address Series to host a networking workshop exclusively for OA members before the main talk by Sacha Romanovitch, CEO of Grant Thornton and a follow up opportunity for networking.

The evening’s events will take place in the new Faculty of Business and Law building on Frenchay campus with the OA Networking Workshop running from 17:00 – 18:00, hosted by Tim Hughes, Professor of Applied Marketing, and Bryan Foss, Visiting Professor Business Markets.

Cast from the military community reunite for one-off remembrance performance

A unique collaboration of wounded, injured and sick Service personnel, veterans and their families from across the UK are uniting to stage a one-off Remembrance performance that they will create in less than five weeks.

The Royal British Legion’s recovery through the arts initiative, Bravo 22 Company, is delivered in partnership with The Drive Project and in collaboration with Newcastle Theatre Royal to put on a production on Remembrance Sunday.

Bravo 22 uses theatre and sculpture to help the Armed Force Community during recovery.
