New Forces in Mind Trust award: King’s College London to compare the offending behaviour, mental health and welfare needs of UK veterans with those of the general population

A grant of £94,779 has been awarded to King’s College London (KCL), for a 12-month study into offending behaviour, mental health and the welfare needs of ex-Service personnel entering the criminal justice system, and to compare this to general population offenders.

Although the majority of those leaving the armed forces successfully transition into military life, a minority have a bleaker outlook and find themselves involved in the Criminal Justice System (CJS), sometimes as a result of health, behavioural and social problems. Until now, there has been limited opportunity to explore the nature and needs of veterans in the CJS and to directly compare with offenders who have not served in the military.

MOD’s Veterans UK organisation, part of Defence Business Services (DBS), has launched a campaign to encourage Service Personnel, Veterans and their families to get ‘Pension Ready’.

The campaign aims to promote the Armed Forces Pension Schemes, which are administered by Veterans UK, and motivate the Armed Forces Community to start thinking about their Pension throughout their Service career and not just as they are reaching the end of it.

A force for change in the workplace, Recruit for Spouses (RfS) are celebrating the launch of their West of Scotland office, based in Helensburgh.

RfS have seized the opportunity to further include military spouses in Scotland into their mission to push back the barriers facing them, championing their call for equal weighting in the employment stakes and giving cause for celebration within both the local business and military communities.

Becci set to foil her opponents thanks to the RAF Association

The RAF Association helps many people to achieve their dreams. People like student, Becci Curwen, who finds time in between schoolwork and air cadet meetings, to be a top Great British fencer!

At just 15 years of age, Becci is part of the GB under 17 Fencing Foil team, and at the end of last season ranked sixth in England and 24th in Great Britain. She has now jumped to 13th place in the GB rankings, after some fantastic results.
