Research shows clear public concern over UK veterans’ care

New research from the Royal Air Forces Association shows that less than one in five (19%) adults think UK military veterans are well looked after.[1]

This figure does fluctuate across different age groups, but remains worryingly low throughout – it is lowest (9%) among respondents aged 65+, while people aged 25-34 had most confidence (32%) that veterans are well looked after.

Update from the Forces Welfare Media Team

Reporter Victoria Smith from SSVC’s Forces Welfare Media Team filmed recently with Rick McGillivray, a veteran helped out of homelessness by E-FAN, a Covenant-funded project run by the Defence Medical Welfare Service and the Cheshire & Greater Manchester Rehabilitation Company. Rick fondly remembers his Army career but no longer has any photos from the time. The Welfare Team helped him to appeal on social media and they’ve been overwhelmed by the response. Thanks to the video, Rick has been sent messages of support by friends he made in the Army and at school, as well as a number of photos.

Legion funds project to tackle loneliness in Nepalese veteran community

Isolation and loneliness issues amongst London’s Nepalese veteran community are to be targeted thanks to a grant from The Royal British Legion.

The £43,000 grant to the Community Empowerment and Support Initiatives (CESI)-UK project will benefit approximately 200 ex-British Gurkhas over the age of 60.

This year-long community support project aims to provide a customised support programme to address isolation and loneliness issues as well as the health and wellbeing needs of Nepalese people in the Royal Borough of Greenwich.
