Skiing Week Brings Injured Veterans Together

This week The Not Forgotten Association is hosting a skiing holiday in La Plagne, France for 14 injured veterans drawn from England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland. The group includes four amputees and represents a wide range of Army Regiments and the RAF. Help for Heroes, Stoll and Blesma have all nominated guests, most of whom have not taken part in an NFA activity or event previously.

“An honour to work alongside the RAF Regiment”

As the RAF Benevolent Fund commemorates the 75th anniversary of the RAF Regiment, RAFBF Controller Air Vice-Marshal David Murray pays tribute to those who have served, and still serve.

I served in the Royal Air Force for some 34 years and during that time I had the honour of working alongside the RAF Regiment at home and abroad, both in a training role and on operations.

Help for Heroes supports Step Together Volunteering and Horseback UK

Help for Heroes are pleased to announce their continued financial support to Step Together Volunteering (STV) and Horseback UK.

A new £80,000 grant to STV marks the sixth year of the partnership. Help for Heroes has supported Step Together’s Rehabilitation through Volunteering programme to provide hands-on support to over 1,750 wounded, injured and sick personnel to engage in community volunteering opportunities.

Future Of Accommodation Report

The Future Accommodation Model (FAM) survey results have now been published. These will be used as part of the on-going policy development for the FAM, which will combine the survey with other results (e.g. the single Service Families Federations’ surveys) and Focus Group findings to refine the accommodation offer based on your feedback.

RAF Association helps RAF widows keep in touch

The Royal Air Forces Association has donated three laptops to the RAF Widows Association, which will allow the organisation to keep in better touch with members, while ensuring their personal data is kept securely.

Rory O’Connor, Director of Welfare and Policy at the RAF Association, said: “The RAF Association is here to help members of the RAF family in a variety of ways – sometimes it’s financial, sometimes emotional and sometimes that help is practical.

Warrior Veterans’ and Families’ Courses

The Warrior Programme runs residential training course for ex-Service Personnel. The course is FREE to participants with accommodation and full board included.

The Warrior Programme is a personal transformational, motivational and educational course run over 3 days. More than 800 individuals, with over 600 of whom being ex Services and Serving Personnel, have attended the course. Using coaching techniques it enables individuals to take control of their lives, increase confidence, provide motivation and direction to allow them to lead a healthy and balanced life.

Forces in Mind Trust releases new report on the impact of self-build projects in supporting ex-Service personnel

Self-build projects can have a significant positive impact on the wellbeing and relationships of ex-Service personnel, suggests a new report by the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol) and the Forces in Mind Trust, released today (1 February 2016).

Whilst the majority of Service leavers return successfully into civilian life without too many challenges, there are some who need additional support – especially in relation to housing. It is estimated that around 15% of ex-Service personnel might be homeless for a time when they leave the Forces – which includes living temporarily in a B&B or hostel, or ‘sofa surfing’ as well as living rough. Recent estimates also suggest that between 3% and 6% of rough sleepers in London have a Service background.

The Soldiering On Awards will honour the 2017 finalists at the House of Lords on Thursday 9th February. Hosted by General the Lord Dannatt GCB CBE MC DL with the charity’s patron, the Rt Hon Earl Howe PC, in attendance, the evening celebrates the achievements of all of those who have been chosen as finalists by the Award’s Independent Judges Panel. It is with delight the charity welcomes new Cobseo Chairman, General Sir John McColl KCB CBE DSO, to his first Soldiering On Awards event.
