Read moreSSAFA, the Armed Forces charity is calling on Aberdeen residents to lace up their trainers, don their kilts and sign up to take part in the Kiltwalk on Sunday 3 June.
Participants can choose from a 23, 15 or 6 mile walk through Aberdeen to raise money for the SSAFA Aberdeen branch, who provide support to veterans and their families in the area. From the funds raised the Hunter Foundation will add an extra 40%.
Read moreSecretary of State for Transport Chris Grayling yesterday (03-04-18) toured Britain’s Bravest Manufacturing Company – a social enterprise which employs injured veterans and people with disabilities – as part of the government’s plan to help one million more disabled people into work.
The Transport Secretary met with workers at the Kent-based BBMC, which is run by charity Royal British Legion Industries and employs more than 100 people – more than 70% of whom are ex-service personnel, have a physical or hidden disability, or both.
Read moreThe Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity (RNRMC) has confirmed that it will award military care home provider, Erskine Homes, a grant of £40,000 to ensure the continued care and support of naval veterans.
As an established provider of care, Erskine looks after around 800 elderly and disabled ex-Service men and women, their spouses and widows/widowers each year. They offer long term residential and respite nursing, dementia and palliative care to its occupants.

The annual mass participation cycling event later this year aims to raise funds for the leading Armed Forces charity and takes place in and around the county. Last year, more than 700 riders took part, raising nearly £50,000, but, in 2018, Poppyscotland is hoping to hit the 1,000-rider barrier.

Read moreOn the 25th February at 4pm Fauré’s Requiem and Cantique de Jean Racine were be performed at St Mary’s church Arisaig to commemorate the life of Mary McKinnon, a nurse from Queen Alexandra’s Imperial Military Nursing Service and the 62 souls who were lost at 4am on 26th February 1918 when HM Hospital Ship the Glenart Castle was torpedoed and sank in the Bristol Channel and those from the village of Arisaig who served in the First World War.

Glasgow’s Helping Heroes is a partnership between SSAFA, the Armed Forces charity and Glasgow City Council, to support the serving community, veterans and their families. ‘The team offer holistic help and advice on issues such as housing, employment and training, dealing with debt or financial issues as well as assistance relating to health problems.
