Local charity launches life-saving appeal

Worthing-based military charity, The Queen Alexandra Hospital Home (QAHH), has launched an appeal to try and raise enough money to purchase a life-saving piece of equipment.

A Cough Assist Machine might not sound like much, but it saves lives, and is a vital piece of equipment for those who have a weak or ineffective cough due to a neuromuscular disease or cervical spinal cord injury.

Invictus Games athlete takes on London Marathon in aid of Military Charities

Luke Delahunty, 44, from Aylesbury, Buckinghamshire is taking on the London Marathon to give back to three charities that have helped him after injury; Blesma, the Limbless Veterans, Help for Heroes and RAF Benevolent Fund.

On 3rd October 1996, Luke was serving in the RAF when he was involved in a road traffic accident. The accident resulted in Luke being paralysed from the chest down.

RAF pair take on London Marathon to support wounded veterans

Two RAF personnel are taking on the London Marathon to support Military Charity, Blesma, the Limbless Veterans.

Sergeant Dai Smoldon, 44, from Watton, Norfolk and Corporal Dickie Baker, 28, from Upton, Norfolk are taking on the 26.2 mile challenge after hearing about Blesma’s work through a friend who has benefited from their support.

Veteran from Plymouth to compete in 100 mile bike ride for military charity that supports his father

A veteran from Plymouth is set to compete in the Prudential Ride London-Surrey 100 for Blind Veterans UK, the national charity for vision-impaired ex-Service men and women that supports his father.

Andrew Whitby, 55, signed up to the epic 100-mile route after watching the acclaimed documentary, Fixing Dad. The heart-warming story, allied with Andrew’s own passion for cycling, meant that the temptation was all too much to deny. He says: “The documentary was brilliant, incredibly heart-warming. I’m also a keen cyclist and have completed the Tour de Moor a few times, so it’s got to the point where I’m thinking, ‘right, what’s the next challenge going to be then?’.”

Royal Marine veteran swaps front line for finishing line to run London Marathon

A former Royal Marine Commando from Surrey will be running the Virgin Money London Marathon in aid of Combat Stress, the UK’s leading veterans’ mental health charity.

On 23 April, Steve Mansfield will run 26.2 miles in the Virgin Money London Marathon, one of the three fundraising events he is taking part in to raise money for Combat Stress. Steve completed his first fundraising event for the charity, the Royal Parks Half Marathon last October, finishing in under one and a half hours. In July he will take part in the final event, the UK IRONMAN, a long distance triathlon consisting of a 2.4 mile swim, a 112 mile cycle and a 26.2 mile run.

Fashion show raises over £1,800 for disabled veterans

Last week, The Queen Alexandra Hospital Home (QAHH) brought some glitz and glamour to Worthing, as it held a fabulous fashion show and raised over £1,800 towards the care and rehabilitation of disabled veterans.

The show featured a range of fashions for all occasions. Girls from Davison High School and some QAHH staff began by modelling fabulously glamorous evening and special-occasion wear, courtesy of local dress boutique, Velvet Birdcage.

WWII Pilot’s Granddaughter Running The London Marathon For Injured Service Personnel

Andrea Farrell, a broker in the Corporate Division of Lark Insurance who are one of The Not Forgotten Association’s major corporate supporters, is taking part in the 2017 Virgin Money London Marathon to raise funds for the charity.

Explaining what inspired her to take on this challenge, Andrea said: “I became aware of the NFA’s work through my participation on the charity committee at Lark Group, as they are our company chosen charity.
