Alabaré – Research Launch at The House of Commons

A report published today looks beneath the headlines of increasing homelessness in the UK, to understand the problems facing a small, but significant minority of Armed Forces Veterans who are ending up on our streets.

The report “Research into the housing-related support needs of homeless veterans” looks at what makes some ex-Armed Forces personnel more susceptible to homelessness than the vast majority who make a successful transition to civilian life, and how organisations can best meet their needs.

Give Us Time – What we do

Give Us Time takes holidays donated by owners of holiday groups, hotels, holiday homes and timeshares, and matches them with military families in need of rest, rehabilitation and reconnection so that they can be able to re-bond as a family.

We help both veterans and service personnel from all the services. Eligible to our services are those who are physically or mentally injured, have spent long periods of time away from their families, bereaved or in financial need.

Research shows clear public concern over UK veterans’ care

New research from the Royal Air Forces Association shows that less than one in five (19%) adults think UK military veterans are well looked after.[1]

This figure does fluctuate across different age groups, but remains worryingly low throughout – it is lowest (9%) among respondents aged 65+, while people aged 25-34 had most confidence (32%) that veterans are well looked after.

Pembroke House currently has vacancies and is an outstanding care and nursing home, owned and managed by the RNBT; located in Gillingham, Kent – not far from the historic dockyard in Chatham – it is home to some 55 older members of The Royal Naval Benevolent Trust Family.

Help for Heroes’ continued grant funding support for Sporting Force

Help for Heroes has committed further funding to Sporting Force, a charity set up by a wounded veteran to offer other injured and sick veterans work placements at professional sport clubs.

Sporting Force was launched by Tommy Lowther after he completed the Help for Heroes Pathfinder Experience and Business Experience course. The charity helped more than 100 veterans last year upon receiving an £80,000 grant from Help for Heroes, who has now pledged to grant fund a further £115,000.

Injured Afghan Veteran Running Marathon Des Sables For Two Service Charities

Colour Sergeant Martin Wilson was serving in Afghanistan with 2 Para in 2011 when he was shot in the head. Due to the extent of his injuries, Martin had to learn to read, write and talk again, showing remarkable determination and bravery. Several service charities have supported him during his recovery, but Martin will say that the NFA has stood closest to him throughout and has given him a purpose.

A Walk On The Wield Side

This 10-mile walk through the beautiful Hampshire countryside is taking place on Saturday 13th May at Upper Wield near Alresford to raise funds for The Not Forgotten Association. The walk gets under way at 9.30am, refreshments will be available at the start and at halfway and a hog roast will be served at the finish. The Glen Miller Tribute Band will be performing during the day and lunch can purchased for £10.

Prince Harry recently visited Tedworth House to learn more about the range of support we offer to those with mental health challenges, including our Hidden Wounds service and fellowship, as well as other wellbeing activities, such as gardening and the Roundhouse project.

Falklands Veterans Foundation receives financial boost from The Soldiers’ Charity

The Falklands Veterans Foundation, the first UK based charity for Falklands Veterans and their immediate families, have been given a grant from ABF The Soldiers’ Charity to help with the annual running and maintenance costs of Liberty Lodge.
