Penny Melville-Brown OBE, has been invited to compete for the prize as a result of the profile she has built for herself across the internet and social media. If victorious, she hopes to take her baking project, Baking Blind, global. She says: “My adventure is all about food, because it delights me! It’s also a universal language with the power to bring us all together.”

Sarah McCarthy, 50 and originally from East Grinstead, will be competing in the Jurassic Coast Challenge, a three day challenge beginning on March 24. The picturesque coastal route will see participants begin in Charmouth, before heading through to Weymouth, Portland and Lulworth Cove, ultimately finishing in Shell Bay.

Read moreHundreds of veterans who served in the South Atlantic during the Falklands Conflict will gather, alongside families of those who served, at the National Memorial Arboretum on Sunday 2 April. The commemorative service, to mark the 35th anniversary of the Argentine invasion of the Falkland Islands, is being organised by the South Atlantic Medal Association 1982 (SAMA 82). It will start at midday alongside the South Atlantic Medal Association Memorial, which features rocks from the islands, and is dedicated in remembrance to those of the South Atlantic Task Force who were killed during operations.
