Royal Star & Garter to showcase award-winning dementia care during open day

A care home in High Wycombe is marking Dementia Action Week by holding an  open day for the veterans’ community in May.

Royal Star & Garter will showcase the exceptional dementia care it provides at its Home in Hughenden Avenue, during the open day on Thursday 29 May.

The Home, which was rated ‘Outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission at its last inspection, provides loving, compassionate care to veterans and their partners living with disability or dementia. It also provides other services, including Day Care for people living with the early stages of dementia.

The open day will run from 11am to 1pm, and offer a snapshot of everyday life at the Home and the award-winning dementia care it provides. People will be taken on a tour of the Home and have the chance to join in or watch some of the planned activities that are specifically tailored for people living with dementia.

Those wishing to attend are asked to register in advance.

Home Manager Reggie Ballos and senior members of staff will be on available to answer questions, and visitors will also have the chance to join in with the planned activities, and chat to residents.

Reggie said:

“When someone we love starts living with dementia, it can feel devastating. But at Royal Star & Garter, we work with relatives to provide the very best person-centred care possible. Our specialist dementia care environments are full of fun and activities, where residents can thrive and enjoy life. We’re looking forward to welcoming visitors to the Home to see the amazing facilities and activities we have to offer, and to answer any questions they may have.”

Greg’s parents are both living with dementia at Royal Star & Garter in High Wycombe. He praised the Home, saying:

“It’s beautiful here. I wish all care homes could be as good as this one. It’s just fantastic. Mum and Dad are happy, they’re looked after and they’re safe.”

The open day is for veterans – including Reservists and those who completed National Service – and their partners, as well as two accompanying relatives or friends. Those wishing to attend are asked to register interest online through Eventbrite, with places limited to three per booking. To register interest, please go to bit.ly/HW-OpenDays.

If you are unable to register online, please call 0808 281 5068. If you are unable to attend the open days but would like a tour of the Home or to speak to staff about becoming a resident or a short break, please email enquiries@starandgarter.org or call 0808 281 5068.

The open day ties-in with Dementia Action Week, which is running from 19-25 May.
