Last week, the Soldiering On Academy was proud to deliver a workshop for Active Plus CIC beneficiaries in Truro, Cornwall, which proved to be a transformative experience for a cohort of Wounded, Injured, and Sick veterans.
This event wasn’t just a training session, it was a powerful moment that ignited hope, camaraderie, and an undeniable sense of empowerment. Building on the foundation laid by the inaugural Soldiering On Academy programme, it became a vibrant space where veterans could put aside their challenges and embrace the future with a renewed sense of confidence.
Throughout the workshop, participants engaged in stimulating conversations and dynamic exercises, each designed to push boundaries and cultivate resilience. As they navigated these activities together, the atmosphere was one of energy and determination. The veterans found themselves not only overcoming personal hurdles but also cheering on their peers, creating a true sense of community.
The bonds forged in this supportive environment were palpable, and participants left the workshop feeling stronger and more capable than ever before. The wonderful, heart-felt feedback was the ultimate reward for our team. One attendee, Richard, offered this emotive response:
“Your presence, energy, and commitment truly helped shape the spirit of the event. Whether it was through your inspiring talks, practical guidance, mentoring, or just the positive vibes you brought into the room, you played a massive part in making it a meaningful and empowering experience for all of us.
“You all showed up not only with professionalism, but with warmth, empathy, and a genuine desire to help. That really made a difference. From one veteran to each and every one of you, thanks for Soldiering On with us, standing beside us, and reminding us that community and connection are still some of the most powerful tools we have.”
Martin Wing, COO of X-Forces Enterprise and Soldiering On Awards, commented:
“We were delighted to bring the Soldiering On Academy to Truro and to work with such an engaged and responsive group of veterans, alongside the dedicated and talented team from Active Plus. It is a privilege for us to be able to give something back to those who have dedicated their lives to serving our nation.”
Learning, Development, and Community Engagement Manager, Dougie Thompson, said:
“As a veteran myself, the ethos behind the Soldiering On Academy is one that aligns directly with my own values and beliefs, making this an incredibly rewarding experience on both a professional and personal level.”
Looking ahead, the Soldiering On Academy and Active Plus CIC are more committed than ever to expanding on this provision and building on the momentum to ensure that every veteran we reach feels valued, respected, and ready to conquer whatever lies ahead.
A huge thank you to all of those who donated, as well as those who bought, auction prizes at last year’s Soldiering On Awards – your actions allowed us to deliver a workshop that truly changed lives. Thanks also to Centrica and Ian Fortune who generously topped up the fund. Those attending this year’s event will have the chance to meet some of the delegates from Truro and hear their stories.
