Do you have experience and an interest in military allowances, and the impact that Army life can have on accessing financial services and statutory benefits? Can you make complex policy and processes easy to understand? We are looking for a Money & Allowances Specialist to provide guidance to Army family members on military allowances and associated money issues.
As an independent charity, we work hard to make sure that the voice of the Army family is heard by policy makers and service providers. If you have an understanding and knowledge of Army life and the unique challenges that serving personnel and their families face, a keen eye for detail, and the ability to work as part of a remote team, then AFF needs you!
About the role
This role offers an exciting opportunity to support any member of the Army family facing financial issues due to the impact of Army life. The Money & Allowances Specialist will play a leading role in ensuring that the issues highlighted by families are raised to policy makers within the Army, MOD and other Government departments, working closely with them and other key stakeholders to ensure these issues are addressed.
You’ll be the key member of the AFF team helping Army family members with their money and allowances-related enquiries. You’ll provide support and guidance on military allowances and be able to understand the often unique circumstances that military families face in relation to money issues. You will guide them through their often complex enquiries and enable them to access appropriate support.
You will also play a critical part in ensuring that we have the data and evidence to raise emerging issues with policy makers by ensuring that all enquiries are recorded fully, accurately and in line with our privacy and data protection guidelines. As part of a data-driven organisation, you will be using this data and evidence to write output for a range of audiences and communications channels. You’ll make a difference by helping to ensure that AFF always understands the unique financial challenges Army personnel and families face.
The post is 30-35 hours per week, which can be worked flexibly within AFF’s normal working hours (0800-1800 Mon-Fri). The offered salary starts at £30,000 FTE. AFF offers a generous package of 30 days’ annual leave, plus eight bank holidays – and a day off on your birthday. We also offer non-contributory Employee Assistance and Medicash schemes and a pension with salary sacrifice option.
This is a home-based role (UK only); a hybrid option is available to candidates living within commuting distance of the AFF office in Andover. Unfortunately, as a small independent charity, we have not been able to obtain employer’s liability insurance overseas, and so it is not possible to offer this role to a candidate based outside the UK.
This post is a permanent post.
What we are looking for
You will have a keen interest in Defence policies and processes, particularly in relation to military allowances, and how Army life can affect access to statutory benefits, tax and National Insurance or issues accessing financial products.
You’ll be confident in working with a wide range of Army, MOD and other Government stakeholders in order to effectively communicate AFF’s policy position on Army family financial issues.
You will be able to translate complex, and sometimes technical, information and policy into easily understood guidance for families. You will enjoy researching and assimilating information from different sources to provide a full and accurate picture for individuals.
You’ll be confident helping family members with their enquiries, with first-rate listening skills and the ability to provide clear information and advice on complex issues.
You will be skilled in prioritising your workload and using your time effectively to be able to manage multiple enquiries or areas of work. Given this is a home-based role, you will be self-motivated and able to use your initiative to undertake work. You will be an effective team player.
Ideally, you will have previous experience and knowledge of military allowances.
