We are a mental health charity that offers psychological and psychosocial supports the Armed Forces Community, families and carers through counselling and mental health intervention. We provide a single point of access to counselling and support through a range of psychological therapy services and mental health treatments that are tailored to individual’s unique needs.
We provide 1 to 1 counselling, family counselling, group counselling, and various mental health workshops including a “Resilience to Civilian Life” programme which helps veterans with their transition into the civilian world, and the “Lakeside Project” which provides counselling and mental health services at a beautiful location in the heart of a nature reserve for those who do not feel comfortable in a traditional, clinical counselling setting.

We also operate a drop-in service 3 days per week and have a 24/7 helpline for immediate support and crisis intervention.

PAPYRUS Prevention of Young Suicide

PAPYRUS is the only national charity dedicated to the prevention of young suicide. We exist to reduce the number of young people who take their own lives by equipping both them and their communities with the skills to recognise and respond to suicidal behaviour, to prevent, to intervene, and to encourage self-care.

Suicide is the single biggest killer of young people in the UK today. According to the ONS in this country last year over 1600 young people took their own lives, which equates to over 5 people dying by suicide every single day

Our helpline, HOPELINEUK provides confidential support and advice to young people and to anyone worried about a young person by telephone, text, email and webchat.

We offer a range of suicide prevention training and advice to communities and professionals to equip young people, their families and those that care for them with right tools to keep them safe.
PAPYRUS is also a campaign organisation and press for change using hard-hitting dynamic campaigns as well as continuing to present evidence to those in power so that lessons can be learned and that learning implemented to help save young lives.

Our helpline, HOPELINEUK is the suicide prevention intervention service in the UK operating across 4 channels – telephone, email, text and webchat in the UK.
All our HOPELINEUK Advisers are employed members of staff, not volunteers are all highly trained and experienced mental health and suicide prevention experts.
We take call from those under the age of 35 experiencing suicidal thoughts and work with them to put a plan in place to keep them safe.
We also take calls from all those with care for or who are worried about a young person – be that family member, friend, teacher, counsellor or colleague for advice and guidance on how to keep a young person safe.
We offer a de-brief service for professionals who have had a conversation with a young person at risk of suicide to talk through how the conversation went, and to advise on possible future issues and conversations.
All our Community Development Staff are highly trained and experienced trainers with excellent presentation skills, they are all also ASIST trained and fully aware of all matters relating to suicide and suicide prevention
We run awareness raising and training courses to all members of the community that are appropriate and safe.

We are members of the National Helpline Partnership and of the Child Helplines International body.

RF is a simple, fun, free family shared reading initiative for Service families, Reservists, Cadets, Veterans and injured service personnel – spouses and partners, pre-school children through to young adults, extended family and grandparents.
We provide free books and special scrapbooks and encourage Service families to form an informal book group with their family and friends; choose, read, talk about a book, and fill in the free scrapbook.

Sharks Community Trust is the charitable arm of Sale Sharks, the North West’s only Premiership Rugby club. The charity was established in 2012 to help use rugby and sport for the wider community benefit, drawing on the core values of rugby, which are teamwork, respect, enjoyment, discipline and sportsmanship, to deliver a range of community engagement programmes.

The use of rugby and sport has been used for many years to engage young people, and it is this interest that Sharks Community Trust seeks to draw upon. This includes delivering numeracy programmes in the classroom, linking sport with encouraging healthy eating and a healthy lifestyle, and delivering education particularly to young people who are not in employment, education or training (NEET). The Trust also has a comprehensive disability and inclusion programme, ‘In The Pack’ delivering a mixture of multi-sports and wheelchair sports to people with special and additional needs along with a successful ex-service personnel programme ‘Sharks Forces’ that supports veterans and their families with the transition from service to civilian with housing, employment and social and physical activity support.

We offer services and activities to improve the physical health, mental health and employability skills of ex-service personnel and their families. We give them a visibility within their community delivering the project at community venues. Delivering drop-in social hubs to develop and maintain relationships with individuals who are sceptical and nervous at engaging with civilian society. Enhancing personal and social skills such as communication skills and confidence along with increasing employability skills and their well-being. We also work with the veteran’s family, introducing an intergenerational approach. We use our relationship with community rugby clubs across the North West to create a social hub for the whole community. We use gym and sport facilities based within clubs and use the clubhouse to host themed workshops. We also work closely with rugby clubs to identify volunteering opportunities as part of the programme. We create and offer a wide range of sporting activities for Veterans who are blind or visually impaired, there is a huge gap in the local offering from other key stakeholders in regards to physical activities suitable for Veterans with additional needs.
